Colour Combo: Why Gold & Grey Are Meant to be Together
See how warm and cool tones combine in elegant interiors
One of the most striking colour combinations to be seen in interiors is the rich combination of gold and grey. It brings to mind the recent trend which embraces mixing metal finishes within a space. While gold and silver toned metals are seen in some of these rooms, the form in which these hues are introduced vary from space to space and include fabric, paint colours, wallpaper, wood and stone.
A brass sunburst mirror with muted gold tones becomes a dramatic focal point when hung on a rich blue grey wall.
This elegant design showcases a beautiful range of golds and greys. Gold is seen on the coffee table, lamp bases, wallpaper and trim on the drapery panels. A range of grey tones anchor the design, seen on the stone mantel, drapes and in the wallpaper pattern.
Many shades of grey are seen in this design: The grasscloth, the nickel curtain rods, a silver frame, bowl, and notice the silver thread in the rug. Gold is introduced through the finish on the light fixtures and decorative vases, as well as an accent in the drapery panel fabric.

Gold fixtures stand out against venetian plaster walls with a golden cast. The scene is dramatically framed by the arched opening painted a deep grey.
In both this kitchen and the one below, gold and grey is brought into the design through cabinetry and the chosen backsplash material. Here warm wood cabinetry looks great paired with the cool grey backsplash, countertop, nickel hardware and lighting system.

In this kitchen the colours are reversed, with the cabinetry painted a gun metal grey while the backsplash, countertops and lighting feature golden tones and finishes.
A brick wall and pale floors introduce golden tones into this space. Striking millwork and stairs create a beautiful contrast painted a rich grey. The finishing touch? Small golden door numbers.
Another view shows how the grey tones contrast beautifully with the pale gold wood flooring.
Pale grey walls and darker grey accents are paired with gold finishes on the mirror frame, table base and light fixtures. Even the tone of the logs fit into the colour scheme.

From another angle: A bright yellow sofa continues the concept of accents in gold in a very modern way. I am always inspired when I see images of this home by architect Ken Levenson.
