6 Homes and Studios Where Creativity Thrives
Clever thrifting, collections, repurposing and good organization fuels creative types
We've covered so many creative places on Houzz that it is time to take a look back at some of our favorites. Each of these spaces is owned by a creative person, and all of them also happen to be talented at thrifting, repurposing and blogging. Here's a look at their inspirational and well-organized spaces.
1. An artist's studio and retail space. Heather Knight of Element Clay Studios has set up her studio to include a retail space that shows shoppers how they can display her work in their own homes.
The studio is also a place where people can come in, visit, trade advice, have a beer, lounge around, and buy everything from her ceramic work to the chair they might be perched upon.
Knight's space is always well-organized and neat. More about her nature-inspired ceramics.
2. A blogger's '50s ranch: Abbey of the Aesthetic Outburst blog lives with her family of four in this ranch in upstate New York. She calls her style "organized eclectic," and infuses her spaces with bursts of color and carefully curated finds.
Her favorite spot is her light-filled workspace.
Kid-friendliness and a place to put everything maintain Abbey's personal style and sanity. See more of her house.
3. Mid-century retro in a Boston apartment: This apartment in Boston belongs to Amanda, the author of the blog Red Jet Whistle. In addition to some great thrift scores, her creative moves included displaying a vintage Marimekko piece of fabric with stretchers, and cutting up FLOR tiles to create a unique area rug.
The sunny yellow hue of this kitchen is wonderful to wake up to, as is its mix of classic chairs around a tulip table.

4. A graphic designer's townhouse in South Australia: Alicia Parsons, a.k.a. Atypical Type A, has transformed her townhouse with paint, thrifted finds, artwork and creativity. The design of this neat workspace was inspired by the yellow lamp.
Alicia knew a rectangular canvas wouldn't work over the bed because of a pesky air conditioner near the ceiling, so the skeleton key was a perfect solution.
Alicia and her husband transformed a depressing courtyard that was "devoid of any living thing" into a wonderful retreat, complete with Panton S chairs, bamboo plants for screening, and sculptural piece fashioned from a mirror and iron wall sconce piece, complete with candles.

5. A blogger's light and bright cottage in Norway: Graphic designer Jeanette Lunde lives in this charming home with her husband and two daughters.
Lunde authors the blog, FRYD + DESIGN as well as an online magazine, byFRYD. One can see how this workspace inspires her.
Touches of color become more powerful when paired with white floors, walls, trim and ceilings. See more of this cottage in Norway.
6. A photographer's loft in downtown L.A.: Self proclaimed "vintage vulture" Dabito has filled his home with his thrift store finds, mid-century pieces, his collection of vintage cameras and his own artwork.
He has combined his own lithographs and etchings with work from his friends on this art wall. Note the way he's practically created a sculpture out of his stacks of books.

You can check out more of Dabito's work on his blog, Old Brand New. I think a gratuitous shot of Dabito's chihuahua, Beatrice Arthur, is the best way to wrap up this ideabook!
