4 Reasons to Love Round Dining Tables

Wondering which type of table to choose for your dining space? Here are four solid reasons to take the circular route

Among the different types of dining table designs, a round one is usually overlooked by many home owners, mostly because a square or a rectangular one can accommodate more people.

Here we take a look at why round tables might just be the right choice for your home – a brief on their benefits and ways they can enhance spaces.

1. They are ideal for small spaces
Round tables usually have a smaller footprint compared to square or rectangular ones because the corners are missing; so fitting a round table into most spaces becomes easy.

Tip: To further boost space in a small room, a round table can be complemented with stools or low chairs that can be tucked underneath and hidden from sight. This not only creates more room but also
opens up the space visually.

2. They ensure better flow of space
Round tables, due to the absence of corners, are easy to walk around, and get in or out of the seat. It’s also easier to gather around a round table for buffet meals or for celebrations (such as cake-cutting and toasts).

Tip: In a round dining setting, one must keep extra space behind the chairs to comfortably pull the chairs in and out. A minimum of two feet between the edge of the table and the wall is preferable.

3. Great for conversations
In a round table setting, there is no one who is the ‘head of the table’. Everyone faces the centre and each other, and the conversation is able to flow smoothly, as opposed to a rectangular table where the conversation at one end may leave out people at the other end.

Catching someone’s attention is much easier and since a round table doesn’t point at any other element in the room (such as the TV or window), it encourages people to converse with each other, which makes for a far more pleasant dining experience.

Tip: A big round table isn’t suitable for very large gatherings, as the distance across the table becomes too large for comfortable conversation. Also, it is harder to expand space with a round table as compared to rectangular or square tables, which can be pushed together to create a larger seating arrangement for special occasions.

4. Perfect pieces for homes that have small children or seniors
Since round dining tables do not have sharp corners but only rounded edges, they are safer furniture pieces to have in a house that has toddlers, small children or aged people.

Tip: Many round tables are supported by a single leg in the middle instead of four, leaving more legroom for people. This feature is especially suitable when you plan a card game or board game with the family or guests, as you need to get closer to the table and have a more intimate circle.
