Sun Sun Sun room - using double hung windows

Wow talk about a sun room!!!

There's that scene in the first Harry Potter movie when Harry, Hermione and Ron walk into the great dining hall at Hogwarts for the first time. The room is vast and has a ceiling that seems to disappear into the night sky, adding mystery, wonder and magic to the scene. One of the ways we can capture that same feeling in our own homes is to use a barrel vaulted ceiling. These ceilings open up and provide height to a room, allowing views to the sky and landscape beyond. And these ceilings can be finished in a range of different materials, from white painted drywall to beadboard to stenciling and more. Architects and designers often will use a barrel-vaulted ceiling in a dining space. While the ceiling makes the room grand, friends and family gather around the table to enjoy a good meal and conversation. The experience is a wonderful combination of spaciousness and intimacy all at the same time. Add to ideabookby Arthur Dyson Architects by Arthur Dyson Architects A barrel-vaulted ceiling captures and frames a beautiful view. If you place a piece of paper over the top of the picture, you'll see just how much the barrel vault adds to the sense of space and how it can make ...

The great room is one of the couple's favorite spots, but its high vaulted ceilings made creating a cozy feeling challenging. The couple went with a sea-inspired wall paint and added custom built-in shelving around the fireplace. The new built-ins replaced a large black TV unit. Tammy's sister and brother-in-law made the rustic coffee table with wood and nails from their family's 100-year-old barn. Wall paint: Raindance, Benjamin Moore; shelving paint: Cottage White, Behr; couches, chairs: Simply Amish

o add a dramatic touch to your home with something tall and tropical, look no further than the Kentia palm (Howea forsteriana). It's one of the all-time-most-popular palm houseplants. Unlike many other palm species, Kentia can handle low sunlight exposure, air conditioning and central heating. It's also very tolerant of neglect. Just one consideration: Make sure you have plenty of space and an adequate ceiling height, because these tropical babies like to grow and grow and grow.

How to Care for Your Kentia Palm Temperature: 50 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit (10 to 20 degrees Celsius) is ideal. Light: It prefers areas with partial shade, not full sun. It will tolerate a somewhat dark corner indoors. Water: Water only when the uppermost soil layer is dry. Mist the plant to simulate humidity and to prevent spider mite infestation, which can occur with dust buildup. Overwatering will cause root rot, and underwatering can cause yellow tips that will turn to brown. If the stalks and leaves are not standing upright, as they should, try a deep watering, assuming there is sufficient drainage. Soil: Sandy with good drainage, though Kentia is adaptable to a variety of soil conditions. Because the plant is very slow growing, you will most likely keep it in the same container for many years. Replace old, spent soil (above the root ball) occasionally. Feeding: Apply an 18-18-18 slow-release specialized palm fertilizer according to the package instructions once or twice a year, in the summer and spring. General: Avoid repotting, though if it’s necessary, be very cautious when handling the root ball. The Kentia is a slow-growing palm with fragile roots. Other Considera...

I might use the color and technique in sun room. Ben Moore waterfall 2050-50 . Take a cue from the textiles in room by repeating the color you create visual rhythm. t's standard operating procedure to paint your walls a color while keeping the ceiling white. We've been told this makes the room feel larger and brighter. While there's no doubt a white ceiling will brighten a room, certain ceiling colors can actually make a room appear more expansive. The key to using a bold or dark color on the ceiling without the space becoming cave-like is to make sure you have adequate lighting or limit the adjacent wall colors to white or another light hue. Warm colors tend to advance, and cool colors recede, so if you are looking to visually raise your ceiling height, stick to cooler hues. On the other hand, if you have high ceilings and wish to make them feel lower — for a more intimate vibe — use a warm hue, such as red, orange or yellow. Check out these 10 rooms that feature a bright or bold ceiling color, along with suggestions for how to use an unusual color on a ceiling of your own.

Idea for corner of sunroomMarco Polo Imports made over this cozy wine and coffee corner to include the company's Felix chair, which is made from reclaimed wood and iron. It's matched with a Nelson adjustable table, the top of which spins to raise or lower its height. It, too, is made with an iron base and a reclaimed wood top. The Varanasi screen adds visual interest (and has the ability to block any unwanted views). Its wood planks, reclaimed from old merchant ships and buildings, might have guests believing they're sipping beverages at a café in some European fishing town.
