Maybe a little molding around the vents and a little on front (like this) with a simpler mantle piece

Update: John and Martha like the bit of trim on the inside of the wood (where it touches the brick...maybe similar to edge of mantelpiece?) No corbels, though..

Too clunky for us

I love this!Wrong proportions? Too pricey?

I would have thought this would be too heavy but I like it very much.

Subtract the high molding and simplify the base=very nice

Simple, appropriate

Similar to our setup(minus the ugly stove)

This is what gave me the idea, and I still like it, and it would be lovely in natural wood.

Proportions are off, style is very good

I Update: John and Martha both like the double-layer look of this mantelpiece, at least in front (simple, simple profile...but a teeny bit of detail.) Too fancy for a farmhouse? Probably don't want mantle projecting off to sides like this because of windows

**Very similar to ours, nicely farmhousey**
Q

**Simple and nice, but I'd like a heftier mantelpiece**

Too formal and fancy

Wood surround is different and interesting(but the horizontal is too wide and the mantelpiece too thin)
Mostly gold
