Here's a way to mix stone and wood on a counter. Note; the left edge is not straight on this island.

Q

Photo

Perhaps the pantry at the end could be a different style of cabinet

Q

Photo

angled cut on the island, and bar sink at the end.

Q

this is a possibility. 2"

Q

interesting how the materials are mixed here.

mixed material

Q

could we cut the corner?

Q

interesting how there is a small overlap of different material

possible

Q

like how the wood counter is mixed with stone, and slightly elevated.

Q

Photo

I will ask Rafal if we can cut into the space along the stairs as they go up.

Q

Photo

Efficient

Q

Photo

Can we angle off the corner(s)?

Q

Photo

This is like the pantry wall on north side.

Q

Like the top cabinets.

Figure out appliance garage for Vitamix, coffee pot, toaster

Interesting idea of drawers under the sink

Appliance garages - this corner seems similar to ours by the refrigerator

Peninsula could be like this

Q

Photo

Pretty and possible way to orient the island. Seating at north end. Cabinet at south

Q

26" island.

Q

Likely 24-25" deep island.

Q

Pantry options

Q

Photo

Here is the space without the island, which may be used for serving or dining room at times

Q

Photo

They also put their island on rollers

Q

Photo

These folks put the island on rollers, behind the peninsula.

Q

Photo

Short island

Q

Photo

the island with wood top is 24"

Q

Photo

instead of a pull-out cutting board, this is a more permanent version. actually would make sense in our space. peninsula where they have cabinets on right side of this photo.

Q

Photo

Tiles all the way to the ceiling around the window - interesting.

Q

Photo
Photo

this is kind of how it looks if we did peninsula with island behind it, and turned the atrium room into a living room

Q

Photo

this is kind of how it would look if we did a peninsula and an thin island behind it.

Q

Photo

waterfall edge idea to bring island into the atrium room

Q

Photo

blended materials on island top

Q

Photo

another example of mixed material by an island

Q

Photo

This kitchen has the table with different height/surface attached to island. Also note the walls on right are half depth cabinets.

Q

Photo
Photo

having both "dining" table and island w/seating in close proximity.

Q

Photo

from another angle

Q

Photo

if seating is the goal, the island could be built like this, extending into the other room.

Q

Photo

for an "L" shaped island, this wood topped section might be an option. by giving it a completely different look than the island, it looks appropriate. Of course, the only reason to do all of this is if there is a storage, electrical, or appliance placement need that warrants an L shaped island vs just putting a table/rolling island there.

Q

Photo

here is a way to put color in the kitchen! since we have a beam that will separate the kitchen from the other room, this might be a way to make a pop... also, this may be a way to dress the beam,

Q

Photo

wonder if doing a ceiling like this would help to give the elevated appearance in the kitchen. of course, could just make it darker....

Q

Photo

could put caster rollers on a work table that has storage below it. this would allow us to roll food and serving ware to the dining room from kitchen, or move the table when space dictates

Q

Photo

coffered ceilings might make sense in our kitchen. Good storage / use of space around fridge.

Q

Photo

This is a nice hallway, and you can get your color de la moda. And has your white picture frames...

Q

Photo

Slide out drawers for big things?

Q

Photo

Such questions... is this the more efficient way to store pans?

Q

Photo

Oh, how I love me a pop out of the drawer ironing board...

Q

Photo

Interesting place to keep keys, perhaps by the back door

Q

Photo

Cool idea! Like how this island can extend with a roll-out table!
