Fairfax Yard
You mentioned that there would be stone on the size of the walkout area from the kitchen bumpout. I like this stone (on the edges of the stairs,) but it may not have the right feel.
I like this stone also.
Of all of the stone patios these dark and light grays are my favorite.
Debbie -- I really like this particular bluestone pattern/color variation for the patio.
Love this Japanese maple I found. It's very Dr Seuss ish for me.
These flowers started coming up in my yard that I planted in the fall and I love them. I'll try to get the name for you if you don't already know it.
Here are the string lights that I bought. I have two boxes. 48 bulbs total.
This is a low lying area in the back yard. Again, it pools with water when it rains, but not usually this bad.
Although this particular rain was extra heavy, this area needs to be addressed.
This river rock was actually a shared expense between us and our neighbors. The purpose was to keep the ground along the pipe stem from eroding. I like the stones, but feel like something is missing.
This view from the opposite side of the deck shows the pathway which is not level. I don't really care for the brick but it's what we have in the front as well. There are current beds on either side. All of it could be reconfigured as I don't really love any of it.
Any of the stones around the property can be repurposed.
We have a few areas around the house where we tried to get the water further from the foundation. They are now an eyesore.
This is the area of dirt that we cannot get to grow grass and this is where we envision the possible new patio area???
This pics shows the whole view of the current deck and patio area on the left side. We envision a deck without the rails and think we can accomplish this with a multi-level deck since the highest point is not more than 3 feet from the ground. Also we want to keep a patio area to the left of the deck so we can have a fire pit for a small group of 4 people.
This area is particularly troublesome as the dirt washes from the hillside into our heat pump unit. I'd really like to resolve this problem.
View of the right side of the driveway. This grade gets steep at the top near the tree. Currently we have yellow daffodils, some hostas and a purple plant (can't remember the name--narcissus?) planted there, but again it's only pretty in the spring.
This bed begins on the front hillside and travels up the left side of the driveway. Currently there is creeping phlox (purple) planted on the hillside with liriope (green) planted at the top. While I like these plants, they truly only look good in the spring. Also the cable box panel for Verizon (which we don't even have) lives in our front yard.
This is our current walkway. It is brick over original concrete. There is a planting bed (empty) between the walkway and the house. We had Virginia clay added to this area and a French drain put in to keep water away from the foundation but we would love to have plants there without compromising the water issue previously.
This is the front. The only landscaping I have is liriope which was donated to me by a friend who was re-landscaping her yard. I have a lot of it. I like it but it spreads in a non attractive way if you don't divide it and donate it to someone else. The dark green variety anyway.
Ignore the kids in these four photos but this is a view of our back yard from the deck. I really want a deck with no railings so I can enjoy the view of my yard.
This is a view from our driveway to the back fire pit area (where the black chairs are).
Debbie. This is our front yard.
If I could add smaller trees of color into my yard I would be so happy.
I also love this album but particularly the mixed succulents.
What I like most about this album is the plantings and the stepping paths around them.
Debbie. I also love the entire containers album.
The Japanese maple in this photo is fantastic!
If all of these plants grow in the shady areas there's nothing I don't like about this photo.
Love these hostas in planters.
I love this whole idea book that this photo is a part of. It is so us.
