Looks I like - for 26 Jackson kitchen/dining
YGS: wow. this seems really similar to what I was imagining for the north wall and island. The warm cabinets work well with the reflective surfaces, and the contrast is formed between the black and white, while the wood gives the neutral. Love it. Also, by having the backsplash and countertop very reflective but with minimal/zero texture, the wood gives the texture to the space. When there are too many textures/ colors and materials it starts to get "noisy", this is dramatic and relaxing at the same time. PB: This is great. I like the colors and tones, I like the wood. The contrasting counters are nice, and I think the waterfall (or at least contrast on the side of the island) kinda makes this look, in a way.
RE: Strategic white and lights makes the dark color work
RE: Reddish woods, straight vertical grain. (don't like horizontal grain) With greys.
RE: shelves
RE: Wood boxes are interesting. Also greys, the combination works really well. Cube/grid look is really nice along with the open shelves. I like this one a lot, and it was kind of surprising.
RE: I like the color but it's starting to feel like everything is a little too uniform.
RE: Mixing of wood and not helps either look be less overpowering.
RE: Shelves
RE: Dark and light colors together. Lamps are Weird, but the lighting effect is good.
RE: Pull out work space is kind of interesting.
RE: The shelves help make the exhaust hood look less awkward and out of place like many of them. But everything out in the open near the stove is going to get really nasty. Anything near the stove/hood should be easily cleanable.
RE: Daily use items shouldn't be hanging from the ceiling. PB: I don't find them so hard to reach... :-P
PB: Contrasting this to the next photo, I think the cabinets being a slightly darker tone sets them off from the floor. The counters are also lighter, which helps. I think this space needs to be brighter, though, with better lighting above the island.
PB: This I DON'T like. I'm not sure why, but maybe it's too uniform and too dark.
This is pretty good. I think the counter should be a more polished finish, but I think this works, even if it's not knocking my socks off.
This feels a bit too dark.
This is better, a bit lighter and brighter but still warm.
Ok, but a bit to grey and/or beige.
The tones here work great.
Similar layout to the south wall. The wood here is a red birch veneer on the cabinetry.
Sapele wood cabinets.
Sapele cabinets with maple floors.
Honed Virginia Mist granite countertop in the outside cabinets.
The honed finish on the granite makes it seem more grey and less black.
PB: This is decent, but it's too monotonous. I like the island most of all, but the other cabinets are too similar to the floors.
