Tangential....one idea for the side fence, if there is to be a fence (vs plants).

This is ok, but gosh there are a lot of noisy vertical lines in traditional handrails.

The handrail/caps part of this railing is maybe a bit fussy, but I like the wire grid and think it would look nice with orth lattice.

If money were no object... This open railing + screening combination looks sharp. Love the minimally obstructed views of the yard from inside the house. The mini-trellis would have to be carefully designed so as not to look top-heavy over such a "light" railing. I have a photo of similar screen set vertically, w/vertical metal ballusters in the railing, equally nice. I think this railing would work fine w/orthagonal lattice below, too.
