Bathroom

This sunken tub is lined up perfectly at the same level as an exterior pool of water. The window opens all the way so it looks like a single pool. This would be so peaceful and is absolutely lovely.

Sneak storage in between your mirrors. If you’re not feeling the medicine cabinet look but are still vying for storage, designate an area in between your double vanity mirrors for a built-in. Best of both worlds.

Sometimes a touch of the organic is all you need. This stripe of stones is a unique accent to the flooring, and almost seems to lead you from the tub to the sink.

Stump end tables need not be limited to the living room. This one, along with the sheepskin rug, adds warmth and texture to this bathroom.

Add storage. Here again, a corner built-in presents itself as a good idea. In a tight bath, necessities are always within reach yet out of the way.

Q

Think natural. Contemporary bathrooms can easily feel cold when not accessorized properly. To add warmth, ground the space with a sink created from natural materials such as stone. Set it on top of a wooden vanity to secure the natural appeal.

The pendant is by maura daniel. Although the master bath is full of modern-day luxuries, the beadboard ceiling and pine flooring are in keeping with the home's farmhouse roots.

Unify. Here’s another great example of splashing an otherwise neutral bathroom with great color via tiles. If you look in the mirror, you’ll notice the shower is done in the same green tile. By extending the tile along the wall outside of the shower, it creates cohesion between bathroom and shower.

Checks, please. There are few things I love more than a classic black-and-white checkered kitchen floor, so when I saw this neutral reproduction on the wall of this bathroom, I instantly fell in love. It proves that no tile is off limits in your bathroom space: The geometric appearance of these oversized square tiles set a balanced backdrop for the curvy bathtub base.

Put the lid down. Bathrooms are full of shot-ruining pitfalls. The number one rule: PUT DOWN THE LID ON THE TOILET! Number two: Get your towels and washcloths in check. Number three: Put your toothbrush, toothpaste, and tacky plastic liquid soap bottle away. Number four: Get that stupid fluffy loofah thing that hangs from your showerhead out of the shot. In fact, throw it away; it's probably moldy. Tuck your shampoo bottles, razors, and other shower items away. This shot makes the room look just lived-in enough. The rolled towels, the texture from the lidded basket, and the perfect tissue box and matching counter accessories are just right. A shot without these little touches would be rather boring. Note that there is not a loofah or a bottle of Garnier Fructisse to be seen in that shower stall!

Here are some beautiful honed slate wall tiles in muted blue grays with touches of rust. They are paired with matching tumbled mosaic for the tub face and surround. Tip: Combining similar tile in different sizes adds great texture and interest while keeping a cohesive design.

Wanna get away? With a refreshingly blue bathroom like this, there's no need to travel to the spa!

The bathroom has an open shower, and this ultra-modern tub that's big enough to allow two people to share it comfortably – while enjoying views of the garden. Over the tub, they installed a leaded glass window that was in one of the owner's homes when she was growing up.

To help the room feel as open as possible, they installed a door with a frosted glass window in it, and then finished it with a vintage-style sign.

Pebbles make a great shower floor because they are naturally slip-resistant and feel nice underfoot. These pick up the warm tones of the slate wall and floor.

A creative approach to tile: add mosaic birds to a bath surround.

Add a scoop to make bath salts even more inviting.

Medicine cabinets often fall prey to unwanted perusal. Store any embarrassing items (fungus cream?) in a cabinet like this one, hidden in the beadboard.

A deliberate bathroom can become a spa-like space in which to rejuvenate. A bathroom like this uses a variety of materials and keeps the palette simple. The sink space stands out beautifully.

Here is a large neutral colored area rug done in crema marfil herringbone mosaic with a tan and brown border. The crema marfil tub deck and counter and the tan mosaic backsplash coordinate with the rug tiles for a cohesive look.

With its smooth shape and sophisticated neutral palate, this roughly-tiled sink and vanity area manages to suggest a monk-ish simplicity (thanks in part to the hefty cross) with refinement.
