Wall color with different finish on bottom - maybe an option to avoid going too dark? Especially since we have the break in the wall anyway - make it appear intentional. Even if not completely white or so stark like this is, a lighter shade of the same color on the top or the bottom with a shallow, edged shelf on top of the wall to bring a craftsman element.
