MT Laundry Room - Siri
My landing zone, at eye level, and inside a closet, so I don't have to see these things all of the time: to the left is a catch-all tray holding a very small red leather wallet, my car keys, sunglasses, a larger wallet that can hold more, if needed, and the right side holds a pile of hats, mittens, neck warmers, with another basket in the background for even larger hats, mostly for sun protection.
This is the lower half of the landing zone, This top basket holds all sorts of travel items I might need, depending on the errands/trip. The second basket holds all sorts of laundry bags for delicates, an iron, 3-prong extension cord & red bags for trips to the dry cleaners. The bottom three baskets are dedicated to the laundry (cottons/darks, cottons/whites, and synthetics). Ironing board it propped up on left side.
This is the other section of my landing zone. I pack and unpack all of my totes and my purse from this spot. (The "laundry basket closet" is to the left of this area, and it actually part of the back hallway.) The hanging rod is at a good height for longer clothing. I will purchase similar W/D in Montana. Cabinets store detergent bottles and some cleaning supplies. Hidden to the left of the W/D, in the very back, are two sweater dryer racks. Occasionally used. The folding board and small covered wastebasket are somewhat visible. I can live with and overlook that stuff. The folded white cleaning cloth is handy for drying hands anytime I get my hands wet. The subway tile is beveled for a more interesting look. I would use this area as a dry bar - cover the top of W/D with a nice clean towel and add drinks and glasses here.
On left side of image is a plastic folding board for clean clothes, stored inside a 21" metal magazine rack, both from The Container Store. I use this almost daily. It is stored a bit lower than the top of the W/D to hide it, but it is still easy to access. The small black-and-white square at the bottom of the screen is my covered wastebasket for tossing lint and any trash from shopping and errands.
Our mudroom inside the laundry room - this is a dual-use closet in the laundry room for a 3-rack shoe caddy, mud mat on the floor, and extra cooking supplies, all hidden away behind the bi-fold door. On the remodel, we increased the depth of the shelves so larger pots and pans fit and boot-sized and running shoes all fit easily in the closet.
We use this 5-hook mirror from Pottery Barn daily for hanging wet things and sorting the clothes from the dryer. And it's a good check for appearance before walking out to the car/leaving the house. Also helps keep this small room a bit more inviting with the warm wood tone and reflective surface.
Our IL remodel: we discussed wainscoting the walls, but it turned out to be not the best idea in such a small pass-through area. Maybe in Montana it would dress up the area and be an easy-to-clean surface? Initial idea is to use durable white paint, not stain, but we want a more Montana look, so I need help here. . . .
No, I don't think so: 12/12/2019 -Siri {Would we want to consider a glass interior door for the laundry room? To let in some light to that Back Hallway area? Another view of "Classical Kitchen" in New York]
From the "Barrington Transitional Whole Home New Build." The sink is nicely set into the countertop space instead of having a utility sink. The windows are a nice bonus.
A bench takes up space, but maybe in the MT plan it would work. I like the sunlight, but I don't want the open peg system for all coats. Too much clutter.
1) There is hanging rod space here, but needs to be higher 2) baskets to hold clothes waiting to be laundered 3) nice tiled backsplash area 4) soft colors are too pale for MT - SNB opinion 4) upper cabinets to the ceiling mean no dust collecting at the top. 5) sink is an under-mount, rather than a cheaper laundry tub
Note 1) pet washing/rinsing station and 2) fold away drying rack above the sink - not ideal in that spot, but it could be placed in the garage somewhere. This laundry room needs some hanging rods. And the dog's water and food bowls could be tucked away somewhere else.
Another set of mesh closet doors, painted to work with this interior design concept, and has a W/D inside, with clothes and accessories, and the entrance door is divided full glass.
