I really don't like the look of the carpeted bottom step. Although a tighter carpet may work better?
we could also do the edges in hardwood and keep the carpet in the middle. Still pricey though.

We could get a spot rug for the tile in the front that matches the carpet to ease the transition.
This one is interesting because they did all carpet and had the last stair in hardwood.
