This bathroom is close to the "updated Victorian" look that we both gravitate toward. If there is a continuum between traditional Victorian on one end, and modern on the other, this bathroom is decidedly Victorian-of-center. We both love the marble basket-weave floor (I think it's so elegant and Roger says "I can look at that for a long long time"). We also like the choice of more a traditional vanity (color of wood complements floor nicely), as well as the Victorian touches including crown moulding and walls painted warm neutral color. This bathroom has perhaps more flourishes and is a bit more "Victorian" than we like. We'd probably have a more modern tub than the claw-foot tub pictured here.

Q

This one is also what we consider an updated Victorian look. I like the cleanness of this bathroom with large tiles/slabs of white marble for floor. We also like the matching white marble countertop of the vanity to create continuity. We may not want floor to ceiling marble as that may feel too cold. We do really like the warmer victorian touches, such as the accent walls painted in a warm gray, white wood mouldings (takes this from modern to updated Victorian). Chandelier adds a note of luxury and idiosyncrasy.

Q

Photo

Another example of what I’m calling “updated Victorian”. I think "Victorian" (and warmth) because of the white baseboard/wainscoting (all the white painted wood). The wood base may be an alternative to marble to consider (Roger likes the warmth of wood but I'm a bit attached to natural stone).

Q

Photo

This is also skewing Victorian-of-Center. I do like the combo of patterned (black/white) tiled floor, marble brick tiles with walls painted a warm soft gray. Claw-foot tub and chandelier adds a touch of pampered luxury and whimsy.

Q

Photo

In terms of the overall look of this bathroom, it is such more contemporary-of-center than the previous ones. I do like the cleanness of the overall aesthetics (more modern), but the severity is softened by the chandelier. I also like the marble tiles on walls. Prefer this arrangement of tile over subway style.

Q

Photo

One can go overboard and this is an example of "too much" to us. Love the Carrera marble but too much of it can look cold (Roger said "mausoleum") and I cringed then laughed. The bit of painted wall with wood trim and chandelier softens the severity of the marble, but we don't want to go this far.

Q

Photo

I saved this picture mainly for the gorgeous tile floor. Perhaps we might think about tiles like this for the entryway to bath/laundry and floor of laundry room?

Q

Photo

Ok, Let's talk about the shower. This bathroom also has many of the elements that we like for the shower. We both love the ledger tiles in darker shale as one wall of the shower (think it would make wonderful contrast against white marble, white tub); pebble-tiles for the shower floor (like standing barefoot in a creek bed!)

Q

Photo

If we are going a more contemporary route, I love the feeling of calm sanctuary this evokes for me. I’d happily soak in that tub for hoooours! I love the uniform tan/beige stone from floor to ceiling (feels like well-lighted grotto).

Q

Photo

Okay, so this is in a totally different direction than the updated Victorian look but just have to say that I love this bathroom. Granted, this is in no small part due to the insane view from where you take a bath. But aside from that, I love this as a synthesis of elements I like (natural stone floor, ledger tile accent wall) but using material other than marble (esp white marble). Would we want to go with a warmer beige palette?

Q

Photo

Main thing I like here is the rich Prussian blue wall, set above moulding and white baseboard.

Q

Product

We tried out bathtubs at Ferguson's and the style that felt most comfortable was one that had a slope for the head end, but a more vertical foot end so as to maximize how much you can stretch out in this soaking tub. Would 60" be too long for bathroom? Can we find something like this for less? We like the thin edge (rather than a fat, rolled edge of tub)

Q

Product

I like the period nostalgia this evokes. A more understated example w/o too many flourishes. Brushed nickel an interesting finish to consider. Roger likes this also

Q

Product

I love the idea of a waterfall spout for tub filler. Just not sure if we want to choose something so modern. How would it look against rest of bathroom (esp if overall aesthetic is updated Victorian?)

Product

❤️ this tile. I like the Calacatta gold marble with the slight hint of yellow/gold tones which seems to bring some nice warmth to this marble. Love the basketweave design. Would love this for bathroom floor.

Q

Product

Similar to the calacatta gold except this one in Carrera marble which is a cooler tone. (I think I prefer the warmth of Calacatta gold)

Q

Product

Another basket weave for comparison. This one with gray instead of black dots. (We both like the black more we think)

Q

Product

This one is in a diagonal orientation which is interesting. What would look better (diagonal like this vs regular basket weave?)

Q

Product

If we don't go with basket-weave pattern but with a pure white marble floor or walls, we we want to consider decorative border such as this?

Q

Product

Consider for accent wall in shower. Would make striking contrast against white marble floor, walls

Q

Product

Consider for shower floor. We like the idea of something that feels very natural in the shower floor, almost like standing on a creek bed :)

Q

Product

Consider for shower floor. I like the idea of dark pebble shower floor. Paired with rain shower, would make me feel like I’m standing in a riverbed at the bottom of a waterfall every time I shower :-)

Q

Product

Consider for shower floor. This lighter color wouldn't go as well as the charcoal black pebbles if we go with a mostly white marble floor

Q

Product

We both like this style of vanity except we know we can only fit in a 1 sink model. Gray seems versatile though absolutely open to other colors.
