McGrath Residence
In Schemes A and B, the kitchen remains in its current location, but in Schemes C and D the kitchen is moved to the south. This move brings the kitchen closer to the entry and stairs, and therefore more central to the overall house. Again, this consolidates circulation and frees up the rest of the house for flexible (less hindered) living spaces.
After we narrow in on a floor plan that works for you, we will dive deeper into aesthetics. For now, these images are intending to plant seeds for possibilities. Similar to the suggestion for the kitchen, the bathrooms can be a contemporary twist on a traditional aesthetic, as shown in the following images.
Alternatively, you could lean into the cottage roots of the house a little more with traditional pedestals and other fixtures..
I am always on the look out for maximizing storage using built-ins. If there is not enough room for a true closets, built-ins for linens can accomplish a lot.
Some laundry inspiration :)
Several of the schemes note high windows. Here, just giving you a visual of what those might look like.
On the exterior sketches, I have suggested creating a covered entry at the front of the house. I think this would not only offer a great deal of practicality, but also offer a warm welcome.
A new covered entry and/or second floor porch, would also provide opportunities to bring in architectural details, like tapered columns.
On the north elevation, the sketch considers a bracketed awning over a string of doors and sidelites.
All of the schemes look at creating a more utilitarian mudroom/entry space. A place for hanging coats, storing shoes, and keeping keys.
