1. Paneled Perfection A bed wall with a peaked ceiling is a large area to cover with paint, wallpaper or art. The team at Wendy Mauro Design opted to go a different route for this bedroom in Charleston, South Carolina. The designers added custom paneling that introduces depth and texture to the wall. No art required, just a fresh coat of white paint.
4. Beyond Basic Bulbs Standard incandescent lightbulbs aren’t as energy-efficient as LED bulbs or CFBs (compact fluorescent bulbs), but the light they give off is warmer and better suited to bedrooms. Even better than incandescents, according to the National Sleep Foundation, is red spectrum lighting, which has been shown to be the most conducive to sleeping. Neels recommends pale pink bulbs that can be adjusted in intensity. “It just softens things so nicely,” she says.
Clean the Air Allergies or no allergies, we can all benefit from sleeping in a cleaner, healthier bedroom. Here are a few ways to keep the air in your bedroom fresh and pure all year long. Use an air purifier with a HEPA filter to remove dust, pollen and air pollutants. Keep a houseplant or two in the bedroom (rubber plants are especially good at cleaning the air). Make the bedroom a no-shoes zone. Vacuum and dust weekly (including under the bed), more often if you have allergies. Open the windows to air out the space for at least 30 minutes each morning. Choose natural fibers and materials that don’t contain harmful VOCs.
A suggestion so you don't use wall paper. Used 3 white bi-fold doors as a flat screen behind the bed to balance the amount of "black" wall there and to hang a large framed print easily on them without damaging the wallpaper. Headache? Sick? Just a daytime nap? It was a perfect getaway in an otherwise very bright home. The light gray wall is wall paper which I am not thrilled about
