I like the whole layout - the only things I don't like are the wood paneling and the subway tiles

Would something like this work for my kitchen when renovated? Cupboard/bench space could be under the bench with stools on one side - perhaps along the side, if not dividing the kitchen from the living room?
Benches are on castors - wonder if I can incorporate this in my dining area/kitchen!
