Help! Want to add curtains

Hi my family room has plantation shutter (lots of them) and lots of windows. I want to add drapes to soften the look.
My options are
1. hanging single panels just for show between the windows
2. Hanging panels just at the ends and at the corner for show

I also have a door leading our into the backyard. Should I add roman blinds onthe door or a panel like I have just now

The curtains look great. The rods are mounted at a great height for the room and the panel length is good too - good job! They really soften the room.

I like your plantation shutters and wouldn't add drapes - too fussy IMO. I like the idea of Roman Shades for the door. I think a rug is what is needed most to "soften" the room. I'm not sure I like the white bench. I might just use it elsewhere in the house. I think it looks too delicate compared to the rest of the furniture. I think the room could really use some lamps.

I agree with Ann and her ideas about leaving the shutters as is and adding a rug and using the bench in another location. What about trying the love seat where the bench is now and having that group of windows open, with no furniture blocking them.

There is no right answer! It largely depends on the room and what you are looking to accomplish. If your budget is such that you can only have one, I would opt for a blind or shade so you can create some privacy and light control. You can always add drapery later to create a soft touch. If you have some pictures to upload I would be happy to give you some suggestions. Best of luck...

This is my actual wall. I want to put curtains of the sea green colour from the wallpaper. I also needed help with the headboard. Im planning to put a brown velvet fabric, same color as the wood finish on my bed so it almost looks like a part of my bed. I have two headboards, as you can see from the picture. Im planning to do quilting only on the front small headboard and leave the back plain. Please give suggestions! Following are some options of drapes which Im considering but not sure which one will go best. I also have window on the left side of the bed, is it fine to have a normal wooden blind on that window and drapes behind my bed? Thanks!

Sheer Blinds are a good option. Put some plants outside if possible that will lend greenery to the inside too. Above is an image from one of my projects.

Stationary drapes( do not close, just panels as decoration) over shutters is a great look! And it will soften the room. You have a lot if windows, so if you choose this look, you will need 10 single width panels! That will fill the corners and in between the windows. Use a continuous rod as hardware, even with a corner connector and look for panels with grommets. Normally I love drapes in big, bold patterns, but in your space, I agree that a patterned rug should come first, then use a more neutral drape choice. Pull colors from the rug for pillows and art. The white bench needs to go elsewhere. Flat roman shade on the door.

I would eliminate the white bench. Then angle the sofa in the corner, place the loveseat at a right angle to that to that, then add a rug. I think that will soften the squareness of having the sofas against the shutters and also maximize your views of the fireplace. Good luck!

Thanks all. The bench is going :-). It's kind if a place holder for chairs that we have ordered from c&b ....Ankara chairs see picture below. Getting them with a slightly lighter leather than shown in picture

We do have a rust colored carpet that we use here. Was trying to see if we should get a lighter colored carpet as it seems to be too dark with the sofa loveseat in an L-shape.

Marla.....do you think if I put stationary curtains in just the ends and the center corner, will it look ok? The room does not have too much wall space because of the windows and I don't want to lose it all with he drapes. But I do want to soften the room with drapes.

You could get away with 6 panels, one one each side of the end windows, two in the corner, and one on each side of the middle window on the longer wall. Use only two drapery rods (if possible), one on each wall to make it seem cohesive. Would suggest a light pattern on the drapery to break up the room here. Here are my suggestions:

Attaching picture of the carpet that is usually in the room. The one in the 2-3 picture is another one I put for now. Moved things around (remove dot eh bench) to show what it'll look like once we get the Ankara chairs in place. Given that ..... What color drapes should I go with?

I think you should stay with a simple pattern for draperies. Possibly a pattern incorporating the white trim and warm yellow walls. This would be soft and understated and something that you wouldn't get tired of easily. Other colors could be introduced with accessories.

Shutters are fine. Maybe a new color on the walls, cool gray works better with the white shutters and a new rug to go with new wall color.

Thinking out of the box, maybe a crown molding over each window (like a valance) to bring the eye up even more.

I think a larger rug set on an angle would make it look more comfy. The curtains in the pic above look nice.
