If you enhance the stairway with handsome handrails, it could become a major attraction feature at your entrance, rather than something to hide. It would be even more attractive, and a more comfortable climb, if the stairway went back and forth with several landings between, on the way to the top, and a lot safer for you, your children, the dog, and your mother-in-law, as well as the many friends, who will come to be welcomed for a closer look at your new spaces.
