Pro's Rule of thumb size of Pendant light to size of Kitchen Island??

I like the look of large 13.75" wide size pendants over a kitchen island, I am partial to the schoolhouse style with white globe about 13.75" wide. I want to use two of these over an island which will be 48" Long by 30" wide. I read somewhere that a light over a 'kitchen table' should be 3/4 of the size of the table itself. Does the same rule apply for 'kitchen islands' as well?

I usually have good judgement with interior decorating even though I am not a pro, but I am unsure about this pendant size issue. I haven't purchased/ordered the lights yet and I don't have them here so it is hard to say if the 'scale' will be correct if I use that size of pendant lights. I can't hold them up in place to help make a decision. I was originallyl going to buy 12" wide school house lights but I found I like the shape of the larger 13.75" ones better. Our kitchen is about 12' x 12', & as I already mentioned the island will be 48" Long x 30" wide {deep} & about 35" high. --Thanks!

A 4 foot island would take to small pendants about 6".. otherwise you could do one single medium.. not too large!
