Matte or Glossy for Subway Tile in White Kitchen?

We are building a house and settled on a white kitchen, with white craftsman cabinets and kashmir white granite countertops, and a stainless steel hood in lieu of a furniture hood. We definitely want to do a white subway tile with light gray grout, in standard 3"x6" size, not beveled. What I can't decide on is whether to go matte or glossy? Does glossy look too much like a bathroom? I can't find a matte reference photo but attached are photos of the kitchen layout per the model home, as well as a reference photo of a kitchen with white glossy tile and gray grout. Thank you for any help you can provide!

If the granite is shiny, I'd go shiny on the backsplash. If the granite is honed, go matte on the backsplash.

You may want to go with grey subway tile...less bathroom look and would break-up all the white and go with your stainless appliances.

I like the glossy. Does that reference photo look like a bathroom?? No! :-)

If you love the marble tile, go for it! You can always buy a stainless or white range hood backsplash like this http://www.wayfair.com/Air-King-Range-Hood-Back-Splash-SP2430-AXK1174.html to slip in place when you are cooking something really messy. I have a travertine backsplash and use a stainless sheet when frying. It works great and no worries about stains ruining the stone.

@ Divya Sreedar. You will have to contact all of the ceramic boutiques that deal with imported tiles in Chennai. Attached below is a photo from AMSET ONE store in trivandrum with the subway tiles on display as I have seen. It takes 3 weeks to arrive from order date. I would suggest you to go for White Matt Top Cabinets with a combination of oak coloured wood for shelving White/ Black countertop Red Matt laminated bottom cabinets

You shouldn't worry about using glossy tile. The counter top will have some what of a sheen to it and the glossy nature of the tile will compliment it nicely. -Lee Design

We went with glossy (ivory 3x6 subway tiles) in our kitchen renovation and love the simplicity of the effect. And I suspect the glossy finish is easier to clean than a matte finish on tile. We chose "alabaster" grout (i.e. just a shade or two darker than the ivory tile) because we didn't want too much contrast on the outlining.

We are building also, same white cabs, think we are picking shiny kashmir white granite also. Just picked glossy superwhite subway tile.
