Kinis

Without flamboyant feature walls or flashy furniture, the Kini residence is a standing example of understated poise.

Within a modern shell of this 3-bedroom apartment, contemporary meets colonial. Timeless elements – some from the clients antique collection, some new, and their extensive art collection makes the place come alive in warms rusts, ochers and oranges.

As you enter, a lovely Good Earth mirror is framed beautifully with a dry cherry blossom twig, showing off the clients love for Ikebana and Japanese flowers. Under the mirror, a planter chair sets the mood for the rest of the experience. This foyer opens into the living and dining space. The twisted and sculpted base of the dining table is visible through the simple clean-lined leather chairs from Ligne Roset. The whole neutral set up of wood and chocolate brown leather rests on a colourful rug of vertical lines. Three simple and clear Ligne Roset lights drop over the dining table and throw soft light on it.

The living room set up of a beige main sofa , a tan leather two seater and 2 beautiful single seaters sit against a beige travertine-finished amour coat wall. A drift wood sculpture accents the corner and completes the room with its natural colour. Warm and metallic tones are seen in the decorative cushions and rug.

In the bedrooms, the colour comes from feature walls that are either finished in cement like paint or wallpaper. One particular room stands out with its Spanish bed. To bring out the mustard and blue of the tiles in the bed, the wall behind was painted ochre and the duvet is a cobalt-ish. The whole room is nostalgic of old colonial India. This bedroom opens out into the balcony that is also connected to the living room. To continue these bright colours into the balcony, the wall adjacent to the room is finished with patina cement mixed with dark blue inks. Blue and yellow cushions rest on the cement seat and for balcony seating. On the other side of this balcony deck is large outdoor set perfect for entertainment in the gorgeous Bangalore weather.

Nothing is over the top in the Kini residence but everything is thought out and detailed to work in conjunction so the result in totality is of elegance and subtlety, like the clients who inhabit it.
