Penthouse, Surat
The design for the penthouse in a newly developing area of Surat came to us as just another project with large habitable spaces and even larger terrace at our disposal to design. The ‘Marwadi’ clientele with a nuclear family and a good exposure to the world wanted a house which is rooted to their tradition but also at the same time expressing the time and lifestyle that they are living into. The attempt was to bring in the richness of design that is the characteristics of the Rajasthani culture but at the same time it needed to exuberate elegance, grandeur and the ultimate luxury that this place is all about.
The Five Bedroom Penthouse with a 2600 sq.ft. terrace on top has the perfect ingredient to become one of the best places to live. The design started with understanding the intricate requirements of the client and absorbing their likings for specific things. The originality of design lies in this very fact that it is not an eclectic ensemble of various elements from the past, but a careful interpretation derived from the functionality and transcending to the present design elements.
The journey in the house begins with the colonnaded entrance path that makes the living area an exclusive one looking into the large verandah type balcony at the 11th Floor level, the passage has a sandstone cladding wall on one hand with punctures carefully crafted in patterns adding a strong base for the elements in the foreground. The introduction of the skylight in the centre of the house near the dining space is the heart of the house with the round dining table lured by the chandelier in tinted glass.
The furniture of the house is made in teak wood carefully crafted with rounded sections and polished in dark teak tone, they become a perfect match to the beige coloured cast-in-situ terrazzo flooring. Most of the furniture is custom designed to suite the requirement and style of the place. The contemporary furniture is inspired from it's traditional version, yet sticking to the modernist sensibilities. The challenge was to incorporate the entire functional requirement without disturbing the aesthetics of the element. Repetition of delicate elements and peacock inspired colours gave direction to various pieces designed. A lot of stress was given in achieving the perfect colour and edge details of the furniture elements.
Lighting design along with the design of the light fixture is the most attractive element of design, the beaten brass bowls as the central lighting element for the living area and the glass chandelier in the dining area adds the required luster to the ambience. The project defines a new dimension to the luxury in an apartment with being rooted to the origin and place and at the same time being loaded with all state of the art facilities sufficing with the lifestyle of the inhabitant
