014 HAMPSTEAD HOUSE

The Hampstead House in London project is a two level extension to the exterior of the original freestanding house and garden, which was built in the 30’s in a conservation area in London.
The whole interior was redesigned by FUSIONstudio to create a new family home overlooking the garden.
The architects created a continuous living, family, kitchen and dining experience on the ground floor linked with subtle changes in level emphasized by the use of honed limestone and white oiled oak. Two fireplaces at opposite ends of the ground floor denote the edges of the family living spaces, while a new roof light to the kitchen brings natural light to the preparation areas and kitchen island.
An existing spiral staircase was reconstructed in steel and natural stone with a solid oak handrail, to connect the formal and private areas within the house.
Special areas of the property included a wine cellar in cedar wood, a private gym, a solid honed limestone bath weighing 1.5 tons, which had to be craned into the house prior to completion, and a rear garden area of approx. 3500sft.
In keeping with the original materials of the house and to adhere to conservation guidelines, handmade bricks and glazed handmade roof tiles were used in the exterior of the extension of the family home.
