The brief from the client was to create luxury holiday home which is also low on maintenance . Since lonavala is quiet close to pune and they visited it quiet often, it made sense for them to have a holiday home with all the luxuries they are used to. The client has a young son who got married recently and they often have friends over. The idea was then to design the house in a way that the entire ground floor becomes a party zone and anyone who wants to retreat to their rooms can do so upstairs.
One of the most unique aspect in the house is the materials used all over. From the flooring to the wall cladding and the bathroom marbles. We have used a variety of materials and yet each has an essence of its own.
The entire flooring is in Armani bronze, a beautiful marble with a light dark variation which gives a 3d effect when laid. Since luxury was the focus while designing the home we chose darker colors which have a lesser tendency to get dirty and need minimum maintenance.
At the entry is a double height feature wall, which runs through the lobby on both the floors. This forms a centre point of the whole home as it is visible whenever you exit any room in the house. The entire wall is clad in a rough cut limestone pattern which has a beautiful play of light and shadow.
There are the three bathrooms in the house and each has been designed to have a different feel. The powder room has a dramatic verde landscape marble around the counter, combined with a very subtle white travertine.
The guest bathroom has a bronze satwario combined with wood and the master bathroom is finished in cement finish tiles in a 3d pattern.
Each material has been well thought of and executed and that’s what the strength of the house is.
The furniture is kept to an absolute minimum in all the areas, so that the space can be opened up and used as and when required. From a low lounge seating in the living room, to just a bed and a single chair in the master bedroom, everything is quiet flexible.
