DIPAK BHANDARI RESIDENCE

It’s hard to design a space that is equal both in terms of elegance yet gives a contemporary look, considering not to spend prodigally and a layout where in any sort of modulation to the space was out of bounds. This flat of 2595 sq. ft. exemplifies a fine example of such a space. It is located in a harmonious gated community situated amidst the dense high rise urban fabric of the city.

We were clear in our thoughts to design with clean lines and provide spacious look to the medium sized flat. At the same time, challenging our creativeness by not wanting an all -white, stark ambience. The entire flat has a monotonous grey background and same flooring all over that gives a warm, welcoming environment and seamless feel to its users. The industrialist client had an obscure idea of adding a striking loud element that gave an affluent look to the house.

We have followed a philosophy of using simple materials & bright colour palette. We have added the colour to the flat by upholstery, paintings & artefact. The strength of the design is that every element in this flat seems to be well thought out & appears exactly where it should be.

The narrow foyer has been rationally composed by designing mirror strip wall on one end that reflects the living area illusionary making it feel spacious. The utility is well integrated with the wall décor and the cluster of crystal lamps hanged in ceiling gives a grandeur entry into the flat.

The foyer is extended to form the central passage that acts as a spine of the house with various functional spaces on either side.

The contemporary style living space is designed intricately by muted colours blended with modern furniture that includes leather sofa, frosted glass top centre table and a lampshade distinctly placed at the corner. The vivid paintings hanged on the wall were bought from Marina homes, bifurcates the foreground shades.

The contrasting sleek design of the couch and yellow printed fabric placed on the adjacent wall makes the space light and elegant. The beautiful hand painted metal plates creates an aesthetically appealing backdrop for the room.

The lavish living room extends into the balcony space that breathes the pleasant winds and adequate sunshine making a perfect spot for morning tea with a grandeur view of the cityscape. The miniature space is made vibrant by splash of greens and a cosy sofa seating.

The dining is aesthetically disjointed from living space by placing a trapezoid unit with Onyx lit marble top. The dining area continues to remain subtle with optimal furniture in the same shade of colour.

The kitchen is designed completely thinking of functional aspects only which has resulted into a clear stack of cabinets in a linear way.

Like other spaces in the flat, the master bedroom illustrates a fine example of classic Herringbone wooden flooring contrasted with the surreal white background to encompass elegance in a contemporary style. The simple bed and wardrobe design inculcated with brass depicts minimalist approach as per the client's requirement. The headboard is crafted from Italian marble with in-between geometric grooves.

The colour palette lucidly reflects daughter's room indulging the space with hues of pink, purple, beige and white. The fabric colour and texture in cushions, blanket and chair brightens up the space.

In spite of the restrictions in making alterations to the layout as well as budgetary constraints we have showcased our sensitivity to balance and design. This flat is a wonderful example of simplicity and style being celebrated in the creation of a house.
