Apartment 301

Apartment 301 in Indiranagar, Bangalore, completed in April 2015, is a three bedroom, two-story penthouse apartment that was redesigned for homeowners Manisha and Paramesh and their two dogs and a cat. The key of the design was transforming the old apartment into a space that reflects the clients’ personalities and transitions seamlessly between being a cozy place for relaxation and entertainment.
The entrance opens out into a large living room finished in a variety of textures in brown and grey tones, blending in effortlessly with the kitchen and dining area. Strategically placed ambient lighting and eclectic furniture with dollops of colour, make this space the heart of the house. Be it the 10ft long dining table with industrial light fixtures or the open kitchen with a large breakfast counter, each furniture element in this space contributes to the warm ambience the design strives to achieve for. The cement finished staircase from the dining leads to the more secluded part of the penthouse. A fluid floor plan on the second level creates a smooth transition between the master bedroom, family room and vegetable garden. The tiled roofs on this level add a cozy charm that works well with the balcony garden and the cityscape beyond.
Paramesh’s photographs line the walls, bringing to life some of his encounters during his travels around the world; while an addition of little green accents around the house express Manisha’s love for gardening. The apartment also has 3 outdoor spaces, 2 balconies and a vegetable garden. The balconies with their planters and a hint of bohemian influences make for a picture perfect outdoor lounge providing a private view of the residential suburb.
The crux of the design process was the pro-active involvement of the clients, making the design more personalized, with attention to detail, emulating the quirks and uniqueness of their personalities, transforming the house into a home.
