House on a hill – Panchgani
The Twin Villas-
The project is nestled in the idyllic hill-station town of Panchgani, on the foothills of Mahabaleshwar. Twin holiday homes that serve as a retreat to reinvigorate for an extended family as they escape the frenetic pace of Mumbai life.
With a plot of 12,000 sqft with an unobstructed panoramic view of the hill range and strawberry farms at its foothills, the design process revolved around a simple concept- the context. The design envisioned a multi-level habitat, subdivided into two primary zones; engagement spaces facing the unobstructed view during the day and the other level as a quiet retreat at night. The living spaces are introverted and yet open to the landscape.
The interior design of the villa focused on a great deal of restraint to ensure a minimalist, maintenance free living experience. The finishes, furniture, colors and accessories are all customised so as to be in harmony with the architectural intent. The primary objective of the villas was to embrace the natural environment by opening itself up to the view and enabling maximum natural light. But in doing so, the design also had to remain cognizant of the physical presence and the harsh rain which the region experiences.
