The Haven House
The Haven House in Bangalore
Private Residential Residence in Shrinagar, India
Location: Shrinagar, Bangalore, India
The unique aspect of this project is the plot size is just 21’ x 27’. To give a perspective to the size, it would be about the size of a twin car garage.
But, man’s needs know no bounds and the requirement was for a 3 BHK independent house with all amenities and luxuries that accompany a house set on a larger site. The concept involved taking the building in multiple layers to house each of the functions that is the living, dining, kitchen, 3 rooms and a study space.
The heights of each space and the placing of the staircase is the defining factor of the building. As is evident in the photos, the surrounding structures are so closely weaved together that providing adequate light and ventilation was a Herculean task.
The landscape area being a small space in plan but vertically large, it was decided to have greenery & elements at multiple levels to give it a 3 dimensional “feel” to the space. The stair railings are actually stone clad planter boxes with greenery at different heights. The floor stone slabs have also been raised to different heights to enhance the “vertical effect”
It was decided to keep it simple and minimal furnishing to enhance the look of space. Small and carefully chosen artefacts add to the overrall look and do not keep it threadbare.
