When Dushyant Singh, owner of the much loved cafe, ‘On The House,’ reached out to us for a collaboration, we were thrilled at the prospect and its endless possibilities. Situated in the bustling urban city centre of Jaipur, India, On The House, or lovingly known as OTH, is popular not only for its sumptuous food, artisanal coffee, but also for their quirky and colourful interior decor. “When it came to the cafe’s interiors, I wanted a beautiful blend of aesthetics, to greet my customers with a visual experience that is unique to OTH” says Dushyant Singh, Owner. And a unique aesthetic it is, with the juxtaposition of the cool and the warm, with bold splashes of yellows and blues across the walls and the floor. “I was looking to reinvent a section of the cafe when I decided to reach out to Lioness Tiles. Not only was I impressed with the beauty of their designs, but also by their eco friendly philosophy of using all-natural, eco friendly pigments,materials and production methodology. Add to that the fact that their products are handcrafted by the well- trained and capable local village women artisans, and I was sold”, Singh shared. In keeping with Dushyant’s desire to lend a Middle-Eastern air to the space, the team zeroed in on a mystical design from the Lioness Tile’s Marrakech collection - creating a lovely blooming flower motif across its walls. In the vibrant hues of blues against a canvas of white, the motif and the colours were inspired by the traditional blue pottery that is signature to the streets and dunes of Morocco. The end result? A secret, ethereal space within the cafe that evokes a sense calm and curiosity in equal parts. Speaking on the project, chief architect Bhubharat Singh Rathore shares - “Upon visiting the premises of Lioness Tiles and watching the production process first hand, I was impressed by the quality and how well the colours translated onto the tiles. The collaboration was easy and effortless, and the turnaround time of the project was quick, with the execution being completed within a week.
