GravityVille - The quirky colonial bungalow stay

A fairytale bungalow nestled in the Nilgiris and rooted in history that was transformed to a fun and quirky family villa stay property. Breaking away from the mould of traditional colonial Bungalow stay typical to the region, GravityVille was designed to be at the intersection of quirk and heritage, reflecting elements of responsible design. The common areas of the property represents a free spirit with each nook springing surprise, while themed bedrooms reflect aspects of the region's heritage. The whole property was designed with the idea of discovering the story of the region to nudge the guests to learn more about Nilgiri's heritage. A note also has to be put on the materials used in the interiors - majority of the items have been sourced locally or upcycled from local every day use materials. An important testimony to responsible tourism in an ecologically sensitive zone

A view of the informal dining area of GravityVille - for tea and conversations. We cut a portion of the door to provide a conversation space between the two dining areas as well as a view of the garden from this room.

The brief was to convert this 1936 colonial bungalow to a fun bungalow-stay that reflected the story of the Nilgiris. This bedroom, named after a rare variety of tea found in the Nilgiris has been given a calm and romantic vibe. Existing colonial furniture has been upcycled with paint and decoupage job.

Winterfrost - Bedroom

The main dining room of GravityVille with original colonial furniture. The dining table was given a pop yellow facelift and multiple upcycled items form part of the decor.
