Abbots Way
Abbots way is a 5 bedroom country home located in beautiful clearing amongst English woodland in Hampshire.
The site has 2 very strong axes; one forming the linear approach to the site, the other defined by the woodland views and sun path. We have chosen to celebrate these axes by defining them with solid stone walls and floating timber walk ways.
The bedroom accommodation is located in a white rendered box that has been raised to first floor level and delicately balanced on the walls. This creates sheltered spaces beneath which become the main living spaces allowing garden access. An additional box is added at the junction of the walls to facilitate vertical circulation.
Finally the house is surrounded by a moat proving metaphoric security; detaching man-made from nature, whilst arms reach out into the surrounding trees.
