This is what I ended up doing: MDF "shiplap" sheet material applied vertically over top of the old front. Initially I thought to paint it black but the white works nicely with the wallpaper and the brick. I'm happy with it.
About the top. I emaild Formica and Wilsonart. Wilsonart did make a similar if not the same laminate years ago but no longer.
The second photo shows that the bar is going nowhere quickly. The floor was tiled around it, probably 45 years ago.
You could apply black slats to it and then add a base trim at the bottom.
