Final report!

This will never be a 'Tree', at least not the same as djacobs' tree hydrangea.

I even tried holding back on the watering so the branches wouldn't grow so long and lush.

But if anything, that caused the blooming to be erratic and sparse.

It is what it is and I'm still enjoying the plant. Its 4ft. tall and branches protrude from the trunk from about 2ft. up to the top. And if I water it during dry spells, it should bloom profusely.

The trunk is now stiff enough to support the weight of the blooms without bending. I'll keep it neat and tidy if required. At least the blooms don't lay on the ground. ;-)

Final Final report! 🤣

Just for fun, I thought I'd post a picture of this same hydrangea above.

I had planned on doing more pruning but didn't get around to it.

It sprouted branches down to about a foot off the ground, but with the height, even those that drooped, stayed off the ground.

I took the screens off it today (after the pic) bc I haven't even seen a hint of deer in my yard this season.

7 weeks later for the first picture I posted:

Yes all hydrangeas are little lime punch. The corner and side bloomed a few weeks after the first two.

It looks great...in a pot:) I try not to compare these little hydrangeas grown in a pot vs in the ground. I can always keep anything in a pot looking better where I can control moisture, sunlight, wind, etc.

Since fall planting season arrived for me in zone 6...I did move the Little Hotties out of their prime spot by the front porch entry way to an area in the backyard landscape. I'll let them do their thing for a few years back there...see if they can prove themselves.
