Of course it wasn't meant that way! I've changed it to your words, but I don't get the difference. When I was vegetarian mostly because vegetables and milk were subsidized where I was and I couldn't afford meat, my indulgence every couple of weeks was to use any leftover cash from the grocery kitty to buy a new spice or herb. We had a very limited kitchen, and not much variety of food we could afford. Being able to make different "cuisines" with the same foods and different spices was a boon! It's hard eating the same old stuff daily. But even so something like the Italian Herb blend, or Ras al Hanout would have seemed a gift. I certainly didn't have all the components of either, and made what I did have work overtime. If I'd had to buy fresh (subsidized) milk for kids, I could never have afforded any of those spices. Perhaps extending my own experience to people who shop in food pantries (in addition to the people I've known since who do, but are too busy working and acquiring food to put a lot of attention into cooking) was inaccurate but I think your reaction to it is far beyond what I said.
I would get the saffron, if they had it, or the cardomon. If I was donating, I would consider something with broad usage besides the blends (adding poultry seasoning and garam masala) including thyme, rosemary, paprika (smoked or hot), tumeric, or chili powder. Although the former two may be too common or too easy to grow at home.

I think I have mentioned this here before, but my spouse's father killed himself.
It profoundly impacted his children and his wife. They all coped in different ways. His father was still alive and it totally destroyed him, he never got over it and died a broken man just a year or so later.
I have lost both of my parents to natural causes. It is just not the same, at all. I miss them, but the loss doesn't have the emotional baggage a suicide can cause.
Also, I saw some of that catholic compassion up close during the aftermath. While most people are of course kind, some people say things to family members which are mean and painful. I am way too familiar with Arcy's type. It makes them feel better to lord their alleged superiority over people in pain. Pathetic.
I am not sure what to think about this gentleman's situation. As is usual there is mixed information about exactly what happened. The pain he must have felt was too much for him to see his way through. I am not so heartless as to be immune to that level of suffering, no matter what his level of fault was in it. I hope his family and friends are doing ok.

I have really liked this ornamental, but definitely edible, variegated basil called "Pesto Perpetuo".

From Poland, I received seeds of this lovely salvia ... ohhh, I mean basil :) ... and instructed to overwinter as a tender woody plant.
Not new to me, though I haven't much grown tuberous begonias of recent years and now been trying something new by staking them as uprights that flowers face up and outward rather than down, thus no need for a hanging basket!
@lat62, I love how the moose have taken over the heart that your DH created. (IIRC, he did that for you?)

I thrive on the visuals so rather than a book, my contribution is a TV series, Rosemary & Thyme. It is a British "cozy" mystery. Two single women with a strong horticultural and gardening background travel all over the UK and parts of Europe solving mysteries in gorgeous gardens. Hired to undertake some sort of landscape project, someone inevitably turns up dead and they solve the puzzle.
The cozy aspect is real. These are comfortable, entertaining stories and feature some beautiful gardens in a lot of detail.
Oh this is a fun topic. I have a couple titles I'm trying to remember, but off the top of my head I'd of course mention The Secret Garden, which surely influenced many generations of readers, and the Brother Cadfael series of books by Ellis Peters. Cadfael was a gardener, and has been immortalized by David Austin roses so probably old news to most people here, but I did enjoy reading the book series (more cozy English mysteries) when I was in high school.
I really came to dislike that Myers Briggs personality assessment that was so popular for a time. It was over used IMO. For a few years it came up at every managers retreat or training I attended. It sometimes worked as an ice breaker when most of the attendees were unknown to each other. It also was a handy way to break a large group into teams. It was pretty obvious that one’s answers were largely affected by the mood the person was in at the time of testing.
One question I never forgot regarding choose 'mercy or justice' and I chose justice because I thought if we really had justice there'd be no need for mercy...

I've never done one of these tests and have no idea what all those letters mean. No job I've done has required one. And I'm quite glad about that.
