I still have a ’remove before flight’ red tag from the missile used to launch the first experiment I managed. It’s packed away now with a few other things but it usually lived on a small cork board I used.

When I started out, in office administration, it was back before computers took us to the (ha! ha!) paperless world. Lots of stapling of papers. The typical staplers are large and heavy, and my hands are small. I bought a half-sized stapler, still made of the heavy material and so sturdy. And I took that stapler from job to job throughout my career and up the ladder. And brought it home with me when I retired. Still going strong! And a lot of good memories.

I can't see how a sterile desk area can even happen? I have my top banana award that I got from a class I had to take, I have the card key from our hotel at Disney when we went down for a convention, I have a beautiful box somebody gave me for Christmas, I have a million things... I acquired a lot of work-related items from the more than the score of yours I've been at this particular desk... My current favorite smile is this card somebody gave me. I also have a Valentine's Day card someone gave me. EDITED: Here are the cards.

Is that a lamp on a pole next to the couch? It looks like an old fashioned hair dryer.

And who could possibly reach the microwave on a shelf in the kitchen?

We don’t dry any clothing except socks and DH’s tee shirts and tennis shorts. Everything dries on hangers and is sent out for ironing. Having used one of these before I am aware that it takes about twice as long to dry, but it also cuts energy consumption 50%. The energy audit our electric coop conducted for us revealed that our existing dryer, when on, pulls as much electricity as our electric car while charging. A longer dry time is not too much of a concern in light of that. Spanish, I chose the tower because we already have a stacked Maytag set and I wanted something that would fit in the same footprint. The tower is actually shorter than two separate stacked machines would be and because it is ventless it can be pushed up against the wall. I waited for the Labor Day sales and between the mfg incentives and buying through Costco we saved over $900 on it. (Costco also has a liberal return policy and extends the warranty.)

As to flooring: our wood floors are the original engineered wood selected by the couple who built the house. It’s no longer made and we could not match the color exactly. DH likes carpeted bedrooms and I don’t hate the ultra low pile type. I am looking at some commercial carpeting as well as the Flor options.

My youngest graduated from high school last year. For random parties he was invited to where I didn’t know the kids (So many of these!) he took a $25 gift card. For closer friends, it was $50. If DH and I were invited, it was $100. Close family friends and family it’s $300 in a Yeti with their college logo.

Mtn, you and I live on opposite coasts, and yet? Ditto to no HS or college announcements . What da?? This years grad ( dgd) held a very informal post ceremony party on patio of her college house. Credit to her and, largely, our dd arranging it. Parents kicked in for a taco truck, drinks and desserts. The grads decorated , moved furniture ,etc. Great fun and very informal .

High School grad parties/money gifts are super common where I live - I used to think it was a strange thing to celebrate (of course you graduated from high school) but having been to lots of these parties now, I see that it's more of a "end of an era" celebration

At the parties, all the kids hang out and get to see each other + parents/families reminisce about all the freezing soccer games, marching band performances in a gale force winds etc.. many of our kids have been in school together since kindergarten - kids who graduated earlier years will often come back and hit all the parties to see friends from the younger grades all in one place.

so my opinion has changed and now I think the celebrations/gifts are super sweet. We give $50 or $100 depending on how well we know the graduate - most kids put the money in their college account to help with tuition/expenses - where I live probably only about 25% get all of college paid for by parents

Just saw this posted on FB by a friend and thought others might appreciate:

Endless summer sounds like burning alive in perpetuity."

If you're a Canadian of a certain age, you'd know this is a loving parody of the Hinterland Who's Who series of shorts that ran on TV in the late 60s and 1970s:

OK you guys have inspired me. I've always wanted something alexandrite, but it's so $$$. But the manmade? Not so much. So I'm thinking I might get a pair of lab-grown alexandrite stud earrings...I'll start looking around.

Has anyone dealt with Angara? They seem to have a big on-line presence.

I was in a quirky little gift shop today (with zero country music affiliations) and they were playing her deep cuts. I was so suprised when my eyes pricked with tears when I heard her voice.

If I could get one free to donate, I would get garlic powder and buy onion powder and donate both.

I'll have to check out the link. I don't have a pizza button on my toaster oven, but I imagine I can figure it out.

The pizza stone was just delivered! For those who use stones, do you use cornmeal on the pizza peel or parchment paper which is then removed to get the pizza safely on the hot stone?

I do use cornmeal on my peel. So I always have some cornmeal burning on the floor of my oven after cooking a pizza. Part of the ceremony.

I use the stone for lots of other baked goods as well.
