I think it should just be things you enjoy - perhaps a rosemary topiarary, or an orchid from Trader Joes? Texture can be nice with all the hard surfaces and things with age & patina can add interest
fwiw I love dried flowers and pods (or weeds as dh calls them), small vintage containers, shells from a beach trip, a small ceramic heart from when my labs passed away etc.. just got an incredible little ironstone pitcher from goodwill recently for $5 😍
i keep my soap in the sink to keep the counter dry
