Lol to the crows. I think the walnuts would just roll into the potholes on my gravel road. I find the idea of picking nuts out of the gravel unappetizing.
I stopped by my mom’s and her black walnut had even more nuts than the ones at my sisters.
The last time I harvested them I used them mostly in baked goods.

I used to live by a cove in a salt water bay. Seagulls habitually flew over a rocky island ledge with a quahog (hard shelled clam) and would drop the quahog onto the ledge below. Then the gulls would land on the ledge for their feast.

Honestly my favorite is a crisp raw apple with some thinly sliced sharp cheese. That said I dog sat for my nephew and his wife last weekend which was both of their birthday. I made a apple crisp as their ’cake’ for their return. It was delicious though I forgot to bring oatmeal which I like in a crisp.
I used the apples in the link.

It would be awesome!

A Wisconsin native told me that there was a law on the books that mandated serving Apple Pie with (cheddar) cheese. Sounds good to me.
I would love a large piece of well made apple pie right now!
I am a true pieface and one of the best apple pies I made was when I was babysitting kids in Maine. We picked green, unripe apples, peeled them and combined them with sugar, cinnamon and maybe a dash of nutmeg — baked into the standard Yankee two crust pie. Absolutely fantastic.

Depending on how many you have, I found a vice works best. They are worth the effort. Some have laid them in a row, put a board on them and rode over them with a car. I have not tried that.
