Chip Gruver is that rare person who is knowledgable, genuine, honest, and caring. His company reflects his spirit. My husband and I find it difficult to imagine building a house, a complex task where patience is the watchword, with anyone else. His very talented daughter, Cathleen Gruver, has a great sense of aesthetics and style and seems to easily solve any needs with exterior or interior design. It is a pleasure to recommend them.

We bought our almost 50 year old house about 9 months ago and at the time we purchased it we knew that the kitchen and family room needed more than just a fresh coat of paint. The realtor mentioned that the home had originally been built by Gruver Cooley in the 1970’s. We saw that they were still in business after more than 100 years and we decided to give them a try. I have to say that was a fantastic decision. We love the work they did, and the dedication and professionalism of the team made for an outstanding overall experience. Cathleen took our ideas for the kitchen and turned them into a vision that modernized and transformed the space. Jeff our project manager ensured everything stayed on schedule, something many people don’t experience on a construction project. A special thank you to Tony who was our on-site project lead. He was at our home virtually everyday for 12 weeks ensuring the work was done to our specifications. He was patient and professional and I can’t thank him enough. I would enthusiastically recommend the Gruver Cooley team.

It was always my husband’s and my bucket list item to build a custom home. After interviewing five other custom builders in the area, this dream became a reality when we met Chip and Cathleen. From the very first meeting throughout the entire process, we felt heard and understood as to what our goals were for our property. First and foremost, we wanted it to be an unique project that met our everyday needs. It was important to us that when we were here we didn’t want to leave and we wanted it to feel like a design masterpiece but still a comfortable and warm home. The details were always addressed….every bit of this home is custom and what we wanted versus a builder’s plan had that could be altered for our liking. From years of experience to being in the know of what is a trend and what will stand the test of time, Gruver Cooley’s knowledge of custom home building and design made our time building this home a truly delightful experience.

We used Cathleen to design & decorate our entire home. From the kitchen cabinet color, to tile, wallpaper, and furniture, etc. She was a dream to work with - with her upbeat and pleasant demeanour. She learned our style quickly and gave us suggestions that we chose from for every part of the house. When I wanted her opinion on which was "best" or "her favorite" she would tell me but otherwise she let me take the lead. With her family background in custom home building, Cathleen worked super well with our builder (which he was very plesantly suprised too). She was cost-concious when we needed her to be and helped me decide when was the time to splurg on that "perfect" light fixture, etc. Highest recommendation from us!

I've been working with Cathleen Gruver on a recent design project for my living and dining room. Based on my taste and furniture we already had in our apartment, Cathleen was able to create both a schematic and Pinterest board showing me various options I could choose from. She has a unique ability to combine fabrics, textures, and furniture pieces that I normally would not have thought about combining. Cathleen has been nothing but professional and willing to work within my budget through all phases of this project. I have been extremely impressed by her design ability and commitment to ensure I am happy with the final product. I will post pictures as soon as the project is complete!

My relationship with this company goes back to the 1980's. Whenever there is a project to be done I automatically contact Gruver Cooley. This strategy has paid off for me in three difeerent residences - two kitchens, bath renovations, cabinetry, etc. Some say you should get three estimates and choose one. For me, I will go with what I know is quality and ease - with Grover Cooley where there is no risk. There is always a lead person on the work team. He keeps you up to date throughout the project - emails and phone calls which is so helpful. There is no mystery about what is being done and when. This company is known for its craftsmanship. I know some of the men have been with the company for 25 years. They are skilled and their work is showcase. The attention to detail is so impressive and that includes cleaning up every day so that there is less strain on the client. I cannot recommend them too highly - they are so professional and so very capable.

We could not be happier with the remodeling job that Cathleen Gruver and Gruver Cooley have done for us. From the initial consultation through to the completion of the project, our experience was first rate. Cathleen Gruver's creativity and experience combined to give us a plan that greatly improved both the appearance and usefulness of the space we have on the second story of our home, and the skilled craftsmen employed by Gruver Cooley translated that plan into reality with a minimum of disruption to our daily lives during the demolition and reconstruction phases. The project was completed on time and within budget. We simply love it!

Gruver Cooley completed a tear down/new build for our organization. The project was in Arlington VA which has strict regulations and high detail demands for permitting and inspections. Gruver Cooley completed the residential build ahead of schedule and there was even some contingency left over for additional upgrades. The entire organization is friendly and professional and were able to handle the challenges that popped up from time to time. The architect they recommended was responsive to our needs and use requirements. Their in house design team were able to customize the materials and overall look of the house to meet our needs. Overall they exceeded our expectations and especially with the smart budget conscious interior recommendations our house looks higher end than our budget.
