Berry Design Build

The hardest part of our renovation project was finding a builder we trusted. We wanted a team that would care for our 1935 farmhouse and have the expertise to stay within the same architectural style. A friend mentioned what a good experience they had with Berry Design Build. After speaking with Honor for 15 minutes, we thought it felt right. Our first meeting with Honor and Holly confirmed that. They listened. They wanted to understand how our family functioned in each room. They wanted to know what we liked and didn’t like – and it was okay when we were not sure. Their craftsmen did beautiful work and kept the workspace clean. The Berry Team made suggestions along the way carved out spaces that are unique and fitting to our home’s style. They helped us navigate through plumbing, lighting and surface decisions without overwhelming us. Through each step of the process the Berry Team was with us, even helping us to find a rental while we were out of our home. They were daily friends and therapists. If we saw something we didn’t love, 99.9% of the time they were correcting it before we had the chance to mention it. They were the opposite of everything you are warned that a builder will be. Even as we moved back into our home, they were the ones scheduling the punch list items and confirming that all the loose ends were completed. We couldn’t be happier with our home. We are already thinking about our Phase 2 project!! We know we’ll be calling the Berry Team.

From start to finish this has been an enjoyable experience – never thought we would say that!! Berry took great pains to help us draw, redraw and then redraw again our dream plans. They have gone above and beyond with giving us guidance, answering questions, and just making everything stress free. They were exceedingly patient with us as we pondered decisions and what if we did this or moved that. They continued to pointed things out to us that would enhance and/or detract from the final product and we trusted their judgement every step of the way. We could not be happier with their attention to detail, responsiveness, flexibility and patience. We never felt pressured in to making decisions instead they encouraged us to make decisions about our home that we would enjoy! The finished product has far exceeded our expectations at every turn!! I would highly recommend this team to anyone going thru a renovation you will be 100% satisfied with your decision!!

I recently contacted Berry to do our kitchen remodel. After a few weeks of wait time, we met on a Saturday morning to discuss the project in detail. We live in a house valued at between $850-1M. My wife and I were prepared to spend $70-80k on a new kitchen. The meeting initially went very well. The representatives are very pleasant and clearly very talented. I was excited to get things started until they insisted that they receive all funds upfront, before any design even took place. When I declined, stating that this was not the industry standard, they replied that their work is "beyond industry standard" and that they have always demanded full upfront payment for all services regardless of the scope of the project, including new home construction! Needless to say, we chose to go with another prominent design build firm who will be taking measurements this week and starting demo in the next 2 weeks. They asked for a fee to start the project, with scheduled payments through the process, ultimately leading to final payment at completion. If you are willing to write a check for a lot of money based on faith and the recommendations of former clients, then Berry may be the company for you. Just know that this is their policy and they let a near $100k job walk away without a second though because of this policy.

We could not have made a better decision than choosing Berry Atlanta. They surpassed all of our expectations. They were so clear and communicative over the entire process. We really appreciated having a good understanding of what was happening and when. From a design perspective, we knew Berry was the best of the best. We are still in total awe at how our kitchen dreams went beyond what we ever thought possible. From a boxy, outdated layout to airy, fresh and modern kitchen, nothing is too hard for them! You will not regret choosing this team to work with.

Our experience with Berry Design Build has been absolutely wonderful. They have created a beautiful home for us and we're thrilled with the results. My wife and I found a 'fixer-upper' in a great neighborhood and were pursuing a Fidelity "HomeStyle" loan / mortgage (great product by the way) to have the work done. Our lender gave us a list of pre-approved contractors to start our research with and I started calling them all to interview them. When I got to Berry Design Build I spoke with Honor and was immediately impressed with her knowledge of how the mortgage product we were getting worked and how they could navigate the requirements of our lender without any issue. No other contractor I spoke with during this process was as knowledgeable or professional as Honor / Berry Design Build. I felt we were in great hands hiring Berry Design Build to do the work and am incredibly thankful we found them and that they had availability now that it is all said and done. From there we began the design process, budget and timeline layout, and project kickoff. As we met more of the "team" (Honor, Holly, Nicole, Richard, etc) we became even more confident we had picked the right firm for our project. Renovating a home is definitely a challenging process and there are certainly ups and downs along the way but we can honestly say that Berry Design Build made it fun and were the highlight of the entire process… well them and the beautiful home they created for us of course :) The Berry Design Build team is the perfect combination of everything we could have hoped for… design expertise, expansive knowledge both for construction as well as navigating a construction loan effectively, fantastic personality, great subs and onsite project management, efficiency, communicative, and the list goes on and on. The Berry Design Build team was also great about staying on budget and on time (they have an awesome app for you to track all of this as well which is very cool and makes the project very organized and is actually quite fun with progress / before & after pictures, selections, budget, timeline, etc). Our budget and timeline grew a little bit as our project went along but only because we kept requesting additional work be done because they were so great and an exceptional value for the quality of work that was performed. I want to say that every line item we originally settled on at the beginning of the project happened on time and within budget, it was only our "add-ons" that added any additional cost or time. I have NEVER heard someone at the end of an entire house renovation be able to say that about their contractor! Everyone we talked to before starting this, friends & family, kept saying "it'll cost twice as much and take twice as long so just be ready" (must be a saying I was unaware of until starting this process) but that is NOT the case with Berry Design Build! There was (very high quality) work being done on our house from sun up until sun down, from day 1 until the end. Even over the holidays people were working on traditional days off and weekends. We had a massive snow and ice storm during this renovation that basically shut Atlanta down and people were working that snow day as well, we couldn't believe it! Even our neighbors have committed on this and are asking us who we used for our project because they could see how consistently work was getting done and how beautiful the final product is. We worked closest with Honor (the GC), Holly, and Richard and they were all as helpful as they could be during the project and even now after it is essentially over with just a few touch-up items left. I am a type-A, slightly OCD personality type so I know I can be a little bit of a handful from time to time with requests, details needed, high expectations and just generally slightly (I hope just slightly) high-maintenance. Honor, Holly, and Richard put up with this like they didn't even notice and with great patience. Honor was really my main point of contact and she never made me feel like I was bothering her with all my calls and texts (even when she was on Christmas vacation! Oops!) or if they were based in my own stupidity (like when I recently put my leg through my ceiling in the attic! Oops again!). I always felt as though she cared and had genuine concern and attention for whatever I was calling/texting/asking about. I feel like that is hard to find in this industry (anywhere really) and just another reason why we are so appreciate to have worked with the Berry Design Build team. In the end, we are absolutely thrilled with how our home turned out. It quite literally has surpassed any and all expectation we had and we will be forever grateful to Berry Design Build for the thought and care that has gone into making it what it is, perfection. I honestly feel we could not have gotten this result with any other firm, they just totally got us and really seemed to pour their own heart and soul into the project as well. In the end we have a beautiful, amazing home and also feel as though we've made some great friends along the way with their entire team. We are hoping to do a "Phase 2" in the coming years where we finish our attic into a second story and will absolutely be using Berry Design Build again, I just hope they don't get an HGTV show (which they totally could it would be awesome!) between now and then and are too busy for us when that time comes :) They are an absolute pleasure to work with and their end product is phenomenal.

It has been a true pleasure working with the Berry team. They are professional, creative, responsive, detail-oriented, highly organized and just wonderful people. The team really took the time to add personal and custom touches to our home in a budget-friendly manner. One example - our children love rocks. The team surprised us with stone hardware in the kids bathrooms and also added a rock-display nook. We absolutely love our home and would recommend using this firm. Follow-up: We have been living in our beautiful home for several months. The team continues with their professionalism & dedication to their clients. They have been initiating & scheduling any pending items. Typically it is the other way around - how refreshing!

The ladies at Berry Design are very easy to work with and they did an amazing job on our 1920's re-model. They are wonderful communicators and always make themselves available to their clients. They also do a great job of staying on budget and explaining where each dollar is going which helped us feel immensely at ease with the process. We were very happy with the quality of work that was performed and the ladies all have an eye for design which is just an added bonus! They have continued to communicate with us since our renovation wrapped up over a year ago to make sure we are satisfied and we really appreciate the follow up. We would highly reccomend them and would use them again!

Overall we had a good experience with Berry Design Build. They understood my vision, and did a good job of finding materials that brought it to life. For the most part they were very easy to work with (there were moments when there was some tension, as with most remodels I would assume), and I would work with them again. As far as any criticism... we were disappointed with a few of the sub contractors they used on our project. We planned on just using pre fabricated cabinetry in our kitchen and bathrooms (ikea or something similar, which we knew wouldn't be great great quality, but had the look we were going for), but we were convinced that it would be much more seamless and satisfactory to do custom cabinets throughout the house with a cabinet maker they worked with. While we are happy with the way they turned out, there were a lot of bumps in that road. He was pretty difficult to work with, and delayed the project in a big way. I believe they have discontinued their relationship with him at this point, but it was a difficult and expensive part of the remodel that we felt a bit pushed into. We were also disappointed with the painting team they used, and as far as I know they do still work with them. They were also very expensive, and we were told they were the best option. They were sloppy, unprofessional, and lots of things had to be redone. We also had issues with the plumber they were using at the time, I'm pretty sure they discontinued that relationship as well. I would like to think that Berry Design was disappointed with these things as well, but frankly whenever any concerns were brought up they were very very defensive, and the issues weren't really addressed in the way I expected. They have been good about following up and bringing in new people to right the wrongs, but it has just been a head ache to have to revisit this stuff, and we wish that we would have had more of a discussion about the people they were bringing in, and possibly multiple options to choose from rather than just throwing these people in that clearly weren't the best choice. This was our first time doing a remodel, which is why we hired them, to see the stuff we didn't know to look for... and I did feel at times that the attention to detail was wavering. Especially towards the end. There were lots of little things, finishes that were left undone, things that just didn't seem like quality work that were just finished off so that the job could be completed. All of that being said, it was a big project and we needed it done quickly... and while it was delayed a little, and there are some details that seemed rushed, it was pretty spot on with what we wanted. I've listed the handful of things that we were disappointed with, but the truth is the good outweighed the bad. They work hard, and are reliable, which I know are hard things to find in this business. We are very happy with the end result, and would work with them again.

We are so pleased with our new kitchen. BDB has an excellent team and their experience, knowledge and creative ideas made the kitchen not only beautiful but more functional than I would have ever imagined! I think their design team has impeccable taste. Everything they brought to me for approval I loved! They understood my vision and implemented it well. I would highly recommend them for a renovation project.

Berry design build did a great job renovating our main level. Our new kitchen, mud room, laundry room and the porch looks lovely. We are very happy with their work and the fact they finished on time.
