David Torrey and his team did a superb job designing beautiful French doors from our dining room, stairs to the garden and a blue stone patio for us. The copper hood and the railing with the French doors were designed with great detail and elegance. David is very creative and knows how to work well with clients (including couples who don't always agree). I would recommend him highly to anyone and would definitely hire him again. David Torrey's professionalism, attention to detail, thoughtfulness as a designer, and architectural skills were wonderful. We met with him months before beginning a complete interior renovation, and he guided us through the process of deciding what we wanted from our house, designing the layout, choosing design details, and working with our contractors. He always brought a sense of fun and excitement, as well, which helped enormously!

We contracted with Torrey Architecture to design and oversee a renovation and updating of our 120 year old Victorian house. David Torrey personally worked with us throughout the 6 month process, from the initial design plans through contractor search and hiring, construction and eventual project completion. David’s designs and architectural plans were thoughtful, detail oriented and beautiful. His team was responsive to feedback from us as well as feedback from our general contractor. David’s overall supervision of the construction process was invaluable, as he paid attention to the smallest details both in design and in construction. He often spotted small discrepancies during construction and was able to make sure that the contractor’s team could correct them quickly. We are thrilled with the renovation and redesign of one of the units of our home. David paid homage to the original architectural details of our home, updated and made the best use of light to make our space a spectacular home. We would recommend Torrey Architecture without reservation, and we look forward to working with him on future projects.

David worked with us on our kitchen redesign. We wanted to explore a lot of options, from simple replacement to structural changes. We're also two engineers who want to be involved in a lot of details. We were pleased that David was willing to work with us regardless of how big or small the project might ultimately be, or how little or much we wanted to do ourselves. There was a lot of back and forth between David's ideas and our own, and David absorbed ours, gave feedback,and applied them. David was most valuable when it came to arranging things in a tight space, and coming up with structural changes that we didn't think of. We got stuck a number of times, and David proposed a way of moving walls to absorb a back entrance that was the ultimate breakthrough. After settling on a base design, we took over a lot of the specification of appliances and fixtures. We were extremely pleased with the contractor that David recommended, and since we worked so well with him, and the likelihood of surprises during the project was low, we decided we didn't need David's help for the rest of the project. David was perfectly fine with that, and still checked in from time to time. We're very pleased with our results, and I would recommend David Torrey even to people who question whether they need an architect.

David created a beautiful design for our 1920s colonial. We collaborated together to figure out how to include a new master bath, laundry, and extra family living space without sacrificing bedrooms or too much of our yard. He did an amazing job including all of our requests/needs into this design. David presented us with many designs and took our feedback to finalize something very special. We loved how the project turned out and are so happy with the result.

My wife and I bought a fixer upper condo in Somerville, and renovated it. Dave and his team are terrific. They helped us at every step of the whole process, made all our options very clear, helped us understand the cost, functionality and necessity of our renovation options, thought ahead about details that we are appreciating as we use our house. I recommend Torrey Architecture Inc. for three reasons: amazing vision, impeccable project refinement, and detailed project oversight. For a home that needed an architectural solution for better aesthetics and better use of space, David Torrey quickly sketched a vision for the space that was a perfect solution -- and one that I could never have imagined, myself. Following detailed measurements of the entire house (even the rooms that did not require reconfiguration), he then refined the essential concept into exquisite drawings that considered every possible detail. It was exciting to open each email as the work progressed. David conducted detailed interviews with two contractors, and we selected Details, Inc. of Ellsworth, Maine. During the course of the project, when I was onsite most days, the project manager, electrician, framers, and plumbers all commented numerous times on how complete and easy to follow the drawings were. Plus, David was consistently available by telephone throughout the project. We had few questions as the project progressed, but when we did, David provided thoughtful and thorough answers. He was completely engaged. As a result of David's work and that of Details Inc., the project was finished ahead of schedule and on budget. It was by far the smoothest and most fun home renovation I've ever done. In addition, Torrey Architecture submits very detailed and timely billing, which effectively gave me a complete record of the project. I wholeheartedly recommend Torrey Architecture. I consider David Torrey a superb architect in every way.

David did a fantastic job in leading us through our first home remodel. He put diligent thought into every detail to make our house not only aesthetically pleasing, but warm, functional and a home we will hopefully grow in as a family. He was always available for consultation, even on short notice. His plans were well done and prompt. I appreciated his honesty and felt comfortable asking any question. Truly a wonderful experience. We had a very successful project and a very happy client due largely to our excellent working relationship with David. The plans and specs were thorough and accurate, the project moved forward without delays.

My wife and I had lived happily in our small cape for several years, but with our ever growing three children we knew we were approaching the point of needing to do something. Even so we went back and forth—do we move from our dear neighborhood or stay and add on. David Torrey helped us envision an expansion that would give each child their own bedroom as well as provide an updated kitchen and new family room, and all within our budget. As we looked at the plans that he had drawn we appreciated his sense of retaining the integrity of the original structure while adding additional square footage. We refer to David Torrey as the god of small spaces and thank him for helping us to take the next steps.

My experience working with David Torrey was great, and I was very happy with the final 'product.' I hired him to redesign my galley kitchen, which was really drab and had little storage and counter space. He listened carefully to my concerns and ideas, and presented 3 very different solutions. His final design was stunning Some of the things I appreciated: lots of lovely woodwork details, a curved counter which was nice in such a small space, a half-wall into the living room which brought in light and really transformed the main area of the apartment. It was very classy and easy to cook in, so I was one happy customer!

Our house is over 100 years old and David Torrey has provided outstanding help with 2 different projects that blend into the existing archtiecture but give us wonderful new space. The first project was a four car garage where we insisted on a colonial exterior and NO lally columns on the interior. David came up with a fabulous design that included a truss roof and we love it. The 2nd project was a classic screen porch with beautiful columns and wonderful tiered decking that has provided many years of enjoyment. We highly recommend Daivd Torrey for his creative and practical designs.
