We worked with Antje on a remodel of our 1905 victorian in SF. In measured terms, it was a subpar experience. In blunt terms, it has been a nightmare for us. After close to $100K in fees alone (not including construction costs), we have a home that we are unable to live in. An architect is only as good as the team she surrounds herself with. Based on Antje's recommendations, we hired a structural engineer and general contractor. The structural engineer also acted as the "special inspector". We later found out this is NOT recommended practice. This is like asking your students to grade their own homework. In tandem, the general contractor had to be terminated and the project put on pause. We will be ripping out and redoing all the work at considerable personal, financial cost. We are now working with a new design team to gut renovate our home. It has been a hard lesson for us, but I now know what excellence from your architect & design team looks like. An excellent architect will not only give you beautiful plans, he/she will also work closely with you to ensure the right team is hired, and that checks are put in place throughout the construction process to ensure you get a finished product. This is not what we experienced with Ante, and the results have been extremely painful to deal with over the last few months.

Antje from Raumfabrik has literally saved our house remodeling project in San Francisco. We purchased a 100 years old house in San Francisco right before the pandemics. What was initially meant to be an upgrade turned into a down-to-the-studs remodel. We had to fire our original architect and contractor due to their negligence and significant quality concerns. Antje came on board in the midst of it, and she really helped us to get this complicated 3 bdrm/3 baths house remodel project back on track and to a successful completion. Here are some of the examples of what she and her team have done: - quickly assessed the status of the overall project and helped to devise a plan on how to get it back on track at a reasonable cost - very transparent and direct communication which allowed us to make quick decisions including decision to replace our general contractor with a new one (a really good one) - customer focused: she always listened carefully to our ideas and wishes; always provided a clear feedback and offered several options to consider. Most of the time we ended up agreeing with Antje’s recommendations. On those few occasions when we wanted something different, Antje always adjusted very easily and quickly. Since we ended up way over our initial budget, Antje was an excellent partner in finding the most cost efficient solutions for the project. - superbly organized: maintained a very detailed tracker throughout the entire project where all the options and final choices were captured. A tremendous help keeping track of all the details for the project and ordering hundreds of items: hardware, tiles, colors, countertops, appliances, molding, floors, baseboard, fireplace, etc - combination of deep technical knowledge and excellent taste: Antje easily navigated through a myriad of architectural technicalities and helped us to understand the most relevant ones. At the same time she was keen to understand our taste and helped to find the right balance between the right architectural and design decision while being cost and time conscious. - last but not least: very professional demeanor, always calm, focused and positive. It helped us a great deal at the times when we were desperate - she would assess the situation and always suggest a reasonable practical solution for getting things back on track. She would come out to the site, walk around, make specific suggestions, and it would always feel like a steady and reassuring hand. Antje and Raumfabrik have been outstanding partners on this project. Thank you!

Antje designed a beautiful Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) and garage to primary suite conversion for us. My wife and I regularly come out of our new en suite bathroom and just flop on the bed and say "I love that bathroom!" The ADU gets rave reviews from our steady stream of guests. I couldn't be happier with my newly renovated apartment. It was my first project, and it was a doozy. Moving walls, stairs, new kitchen and 3 new bathrooms. Every room and surface was touched. I can't imagine sorting through all the decisions without Antje's help. She helped me understand the overall process, as well as the small details. We had a wonderful experience with Antje at Raumfabrik. After our first meeting, she came to us with many ideas that we hadn't thought about and was very flexible in incorporating those ideas with our preferences. Her team was responsive and prompt with all their communications with us. Antje was very helpful with the design elements helping us with materials and fixtures. We didn't need to hire a separate designer. In addition, Antje was very detailed and meticulous with her drawings and specifications. We didn't need to make changes with the contractor because everything had been thought out and she worked very well with the contractor. We love everything about our remodel.

Antje designed a second floor addition, and a kitchen / garage remodel for us. I can highly recommend Antje if you are looking for the following: - Extreme attention to details. Because of her meticulous work style, I never had to resubmit plans, or make many adjustments based on the contractor's work, and her drawings. She did things correctly, and efficiently the first time around. (saving time and money). - Extremely fast turnaround, and prompt response time. - Excellent design, and taste level, including good at listening, and incorporating our aesthetic into the plan. She made suggestions about small accents that could elevate the look of the kitchen, like a nice high-end toe-kick, to match some kitchen shelves. - If you have little to no experience, like I did, she is a great resource for suggesting products and fixtures, or helping to choose them for you. She is very patient, and she double checked all appliance specs for me, and she kindly entertained all my building and remodeling ignorance. Imagine there were a contest, and you had to choose an architect to design and project manage your dream home, but your involvement was restricted to writing down what you wanted for a dream home, and then you had to turn the project over to an architect, and leave until the home was built... Antje is the kind of architect I would 100% trust to complete the project in a timely manner, with incredible attention to detail, and I would feel confident in her capability to carry out, not her vision of a dream home, but interpret our vision. Lastly, Antje loves what she does, she was born to do this, and I find it is always better to work with someone who truly loves their trade.

Antje listened closely and asked excellent questions to ensure that my team and I had a unified vision, that the designs were lovely and that all fit within our budget. Antje’s designs for us included residential and commercial spaces in a 1920s building in the Bayview district of San Francisco. The living space upstairs is so pretty. We preserved the original fireplace and wood floors in the living room and bedrooms and updated the lighting and fixtures throughout. We completely renovated the kitchen and it is gorgeous! The downstairs commercial space is a cafe almost ready for its grand opening. We kept the dyed concrete floor, which is a gem, and everything else is new. We are pleased with all the selections of tile, lights, countertops, cabinet designs, fixtures, hardware and paint, just to name a few. Are experiencing joy and have Antje to thank!

Antje and Raumfabrik worked with us on a commercial building remodel in downtown SF and was a fantastic asset. She’s an awesome combination of creativity and sensitivity, technical expertise and care about details, a pleasure to work with and also fierce advocate for the vision as the work goes on. She doesn’t tolerate shortcuts or compromise where it counts. I’ve worked with her since our first big project on my own home remodel and on another major project rehabbing a mixed-use building. All turned out great. I found Antje and her team to be full of ideas we hadn’t thought about, which in one case wound up saving us a great deal of time and money when she found a way to squeeze a bathroom into a space we never considered. She’s great on the design aspects, too. All around pro — I’ve worked with several architects and she’s the best I’ve found in the Bay Area.

We worked with Antje on a complete renovation of our 1920s 1,000 sq. ft. Spanish bungalow. We needed new plumbing, heating, electrical, windows and stucco. It was fascinating and fun to watch her architect’s mind work as she looked at spaces during our first walk-through. We wanted a ½ bath and laundry room (64 sq. ft. addition), more closet space and an expanded guest room. Somehow all this was accomplished while taking space from the kitchen—a kitchen that is now more open, functional, and beautiful. It was our first time with a project like this and she was extremely helpful in pointing us to sources for new fixtures, hardware, cabinets, etc. and making sure that our orders were placed on time to keep the project on schedule. Most importantly, she listened to what we wanted and we found it very enjoyable to work with her. We would highly recommend Antje for her design skills, organizational skills and the excellent communication we had all through the project.
