Mayita Dinos Garden Design

I had a terrific experience with Mayita. I had already bought some plants for my large backyard but wanted some help figuring out where to put what, and what else to buy. She suggested lots of great plants and gave me plans for a new layout and design. I now have a beautiful separate seating area and the yard has a beautiful flow. Mayita had lots of ideas but really listened to what I liked. Her fee was reasonable, and she told me where to buy some things on my own so I could save some money. She was completely flexible about it all. She has a great eye, and great taste. She's also very knowledgable about sustainability and organic gardening and is all about the dirt! Making it healthy so that plants will grow. She's very easy to communicate with and I had a great time working with her!

I hired Mayita Dinos after seeing some photos of her work on the internet and having a conversation with her about what my front and back gardens needed. Mayita impressed me right away with her knowledge of xeriscape and concern for the health of my soil, as well as her deep knowledge of plants and trees. After our first convo, she jumped in and immediately came up with a great plan for our front yard, delivering several sketches illustrating what we could do, plant and hardscape-wise. From there, it was easy. We went ahead with the plan, meeting at the nursery, so Mayita could get an idea of what plants I liked. Soon after, our soil was tested and checked, and she began preparing our yard and then directing the landscape workers on where to place the pathways, install the fountain we'd found and place the actual plants. Working with Mayita is easy and stress-free. She is responsive to input and fun to be around. The result was beautiful and just what we'd wanted, and now we're looking forward to tackling our backyard with Mayita in the New Year!

Mayita Dinos has designed gardens for the two homes that my husband and I have owned in Los Angeles over the past 20 years. We live in a loft now or she would have done this one as well. Mayita creates plant plans and drawings based on our conversations and then makes specific recommendations based on climate, soil conditions and the time we have for upkeep. She is intensely creative but able to explain her ideas and modify them to our wishes. We love working with her.

She is a talented, inspired artist, devoted to making an outdoor space as beautiful, comfortable and usable as possible. Even though she was highly recommended, working with Mayita was an unexpected delight! She brought an astonishing degree of experience and expertise to the project, which she deftly applied to a remarkably beautiful and livable design. Her knowledge of plant and hardscape options offered us a wide spectrum of choices based on price and our personal tastes. She skillfully guided us through many difficult decisions and we are extremely happy with the results. She designed a Mediterranean backyard garden customized to our family's outdoor lifestyle. Where formerly there had been a patchy lawn, we now have perennial garden beds, a small art studio, three water features, a large covered patio dining area, a vegetable garden/mini citrus grove, and cozy sitting areas. All the paving was done with recycled brick, urbanite and local stone. Our backyard has become our haven!

Mayita is a lovely presence whose calm demeanor is reflected in her peaceful landscape design. She remodeled our back yard a few years ago, helping us to bring a garden from child-friendly to elegant backyard, and her plan for a problem area in a corner of the yard is quite brilliant. She's great with both hardscape and landscape design and her overall aesthetic is unpretentious and pleasing. She's a great listener and is good at anticipating the needs of her clients (in this case - me!) and working together was made easy by her ability to depict the way the yard would work with photo programs. She brought the first job (as well as a subsequent one) in on budget and on time. I'd recommend her wholeheartedly!
