Jeff Young has my HIGHEST recommendation.
I own two apartment complexes in neighborhoods that have become trendy. I wanted to know whether full remodels, including new kitchens and bathrooms, would increase the rents sufficiently to justify the expense. I hired Jeff Young. The results were superb. Jeff kept costs down by consistently locating and obtaining discounts from the best suppliers of quality cabinets and granite countertops. But Jeff’s true skill was in design and construction. He has an innate talent for selecting colors, cabinet styles, granite, light fixtures, etc. He designed each new kitchen and bath, removed the popcorn ceilings, repaired electrical systems when required, etc. For reasonable costs, Jeff completely and expertly renovated my units. As the first units became ready, true success for me would be measured by the market test. Renters flocked to take the units. My increased cash flow was more than enough to pay for each renovation. In addition,
I have better tenants who have high credit scores. The whole project was a success.
I also found I could trust Jeff, who always kept me in the loop and gave me fair and reliable estimates and progress reports. I felt he was honest when I hired him, but seeing him in action confirmed my impression. When someone works on many small apartments, a cabinet is bound to get scratched. When it happened, Jeff immediately pointed it out to me. Since cabinets come with repair materials and Jeff had already repaired the scratch, I could not even find the blemish until Jeff placed his finger on it. In this and other contexts, Jeff would go out of his way to be above board when he did not need to. There are not many people you can trust these days. I trust Jeff.
Based on my experience, my mother interviewed Jeff along with a number of other designers for a kitchen remodel. This was for my mother's $5 million, bay-front home in Coronado, California, which has been featured in Sunset Magazine. She hired Jeff for both the design and construction of her new kitchen. When it came time to choose the final design for the new kitchen island, mom had a hard time deciding. So Jeff did something clever; he built a life-size model of the kitchen island as he envisioned it. Then he set the life-sized model in place. He and my mom experimented with its location and size until it was perfect for her. Jeff also expanded the kitchen to take advantage of pool and bay views. Jeff's work was nothing short of spectacular, and his price met my mom's frugal budget requirements. In all his work, Jeff has earned my enthusiastic and unreserved recommendation.
