About Marie-Laure Kosian: Originally from Burgundy, France, she developed her appreciation for sophisticated design while working in luxury hotels throughout Europe. Having worked in London, Monte Carlo, and Paris, she enrolled in Parsons School of Design in 1991 in New York City. After receiving her Interior Design degree, she founded her firm ML Design in New York. Today, her business runs in Charleston, South Carolina. ML Design has been commissioned by clients in New York City and Westchester County, Greenwich and New Canaan Connecticut, London, Paris, and Costa Rica. Since relocating her business to South Carolina in 2002, she now completes projects on Bray's Island, Kiawah Island, and surrounding sea islands in addition to Mount Pleasant and downtown Charleston. Marie-Laure not only has a great sense of style, she also managed our project with the precision of a military deployment. What she was able to accomplish during the COVID supply chain shortages was nothing short of amazing. We were out of town for most of the project but always felt connected via her FaceTime updates. Marie-Laure's team of contractors - painters, electricians, upholsterers, cabinet makers, etc. are top notch. She was fun to work with and direct when she thought I was making a decision that I would regret. She worked with our existing pieces and helped us find just the right additions. She transformed our Charleston dream home into everything we envisioned and more.

Honestly I’m not sure if this format will fully allow me to explain how impressed I’ve been Marie-Laure Kosian! If you’re looking for the total package. Marie Kosian is your interior designer....trust me! Hard working and passionate are the first two attributes that come to mind when describing Marie......did I mention hard working?!!! She treated my project as if it were own. There were times that I had to step back and ask myself who cares more here...really I’m being honest. One thing in my opinion that differentiates Marie from other designers is that she quickly adapts to your taste. She is phenomenal at quickly identifying the needs for a space and finding multiple options for every facet of the design. Ive been working in and around this industry for close to twenty years and I can tell you. No one that I’ve come across works as quickly and efficiently as Marie Kosian. Marie-Laure helped me in the midst of the pandemic. I needed help with placing my furniture from two homes into one. It meant measuring all of my case goods, reupholstering furniture and finding new pieces. We did it! ML's talent and quick execution was a huge asset during the building process as well as the move in. She placed the furniture, new or owned, on my house plans (CAD). I was able to post a floor plan in every room and the movers knew where to place everything. She was willing to do as much or as little as needed so I didn't feel any pressure to buy all new, as some designers prefer. It might make the job easier but in the end the house feels like it belongs to you when you find a designer that isn't afraid to work with existing pieces. I trusted her when she would asses if a piece of furniture was worth "saving". ML also helped keep things timeless but unique. An example of this was using lighting sources that were new to me and we were able to do all of this without leaving Charleston, SC. No showrooms were open to the public so I relied on ML's experience. My home will stand the test of time with our fabric selections, colors and feel. I would use her again, even if I say, I'm never moving again!

This is the third project for which I have used ML design. Originally we were together in New York and she did a beautiful job with my suburban home in Chappaqua, New York. I found her work so interesting and fun that I hired her to help with a Rhode Island beach house. We are now expanding the beach house and she is back to work with us again. She is fun, efficient, energetic and has great sources for unique finds. I always receive appreciation from guests who admire the collection of older pieces placed next to more modern elements...an eclectic mix that works. I am happy to recommend her professionalism and creativity.

One house was on the water in Old Village and the other in Ion Mount Pleasant. She knows all the best vendors. Her workers and contractors are the best in town. Both houses were done on time and on budget. She has a great eye for scale and color and is extremely detail oriented. My husband and I have enjoyed working with Marie-laure Kosian immensely. She came very highly recommended by both Houzz and a couple of people we know in town. We were also able to talk to several people who she worked with who were very satisfied with her work. She has a warm, friendly personality and has been very easy to communicate with. She is an extremely hard working professional who's love of what she does comes through clearly. We bought an 1800s town home in downtown Charleston and we wanted a modern/transitional decor. Her design skills enabled us to have the beautiful, comfortable home we envisioned from the start. We had furniture we had brought with us and she helped us incorporate the furniture we already had with many exquisite new pieces we love. She knows excellent vendors in town for window treatment, custom furniture made just for our home, rugs upholstery, etc. who were all very good at what they did and very professional. She also helped us with the design and decor for our 2nd floor terrace and it looks just beautiful as well as comfortable, which is very important to us. We wanted a lovely home that was very livable. She listened to what we wanted very carefully, but let us know unequivocally if she felt we were about to make a mistake. Her design abilities were wonderful and she was right on the mark every time with measurements, placement, size of pieces, ect. We will not hesitate to call on her again should the need arise.

I have used ML Design for two projects so far. I needed professional advice and was extremely pleased with the results. For the first one, she very efficiently helped me evaluate requirements for furnishing a rental unit, and referred me to just the vendor I needed. For the second one she helped me with an edit/refresh of a vacation rental. Her advice made it easy to rearrange and pare down the furnishings and she even came back to supervise the picture hanging and final touches. I look forward to working with her again.

Marie came to me just for a two hour consultation. She was fantastic. I told her I was a very small project and was upfront. I was surprised she still came to my house to give me advice on what to do. She took the time with me even though she knew I would not be a client as I am on a tight budget. Her expertise was invaluable to me. I had been very impressed with her background and her work from her pictures. I’m originally from NYC and I have lived in London and traveled extensively abroad and come from a European background. I told her I had pieces from my mother from Europe that dated back from the 20’s. So I think that piqued her interest. It was so nice of her to take the time and spend a few hours with me. It was worth every penny.

I can not say enough good things about ML Design. I have built six homes, bought and redesigned a 70,000 sq ft commercial office building, completely redesigned a large downtown Charleston apartment, as well as totally renovated and redesigned my 10 year old, 8,000 sq ft Kiawah Island home. Therefore, I've had lots of experience with many designers. Marie Laure is by far the best I have ever worked with. She is in a league by herself. She quickly got to know my style and budget and delivered! She is super organized and has amazing resources. She came to every meeting extremely prepared and never wasted a moment of my time. She met every deadline with ease. She delivered totally within the budget. She worked very well with the General Contractor as well as the many trade individuals. She is able to quickly adjust when schedules change with contractors. I first hired ML to completely redesign and furnish my downtown Charleston apartment and the results were amazing. When it can to my Kiawah Island home major renovation and redesign, I only considered ML and the results are stunning! When my son and daughter in law recently bought a large home in Charleston they would only use ML based on my incredible experience with her. Simply put, Marie Laure is an amazing designer. This is a high end condo in downtown Charleston, SC. ML Design provided the designs for an updated, transitional look. They also coordinated the removal of the old fixtures, old wall coverings and other accessories. They assisted in identifying the needed subcontractors and negotiating contracts, supervised the work and insured a high quality product. They selected all new furnishings, wall coverings, draperies and accessories and arranged for installation. I continue to be very pleased with the process and the end result.

Tremendously talented, strongly committed to her client, complete understanding of the full depth and breadth of the project. The first time we hired ML it was to decorate a 3500 sq/ft beach house. The overall experience was excellent. She uses a wide variety of sources unlike a lot of decorators who always go to the same ones; and she was not only within budget but in many cases uncovered great "finds" for huge savings. Another key attribute of ML is that she really takes the time to understand your tastes and overall goals versus many designers who try to sell their own style preferences. Finally she is also so fun to work with - we were sad when the project was completed! Second time working with ML on our primary home. We had worked with other designers previously on other parts of the house but ML was different in that she again took the time to understand our style we were after and listened to our input on goals and was very careful to given us options that fit us perfectly. We totally loved the result and wished she had done our entire house. She has such a sense of style and is highly professional. And if she brings in any contractors she is very hands on and absolutely ensures top quality work. I would recommend highly and would definitely hire her again.

ML Design was hired to design and decorate a fine dining restaurant. The project was handled by the lead designer Marie-Laure Kosian from the beginning till the end in a timely manner and meticulous attention to details. Beside her ethical professionalism, Marie Laure has a refined taste and great knowledge in colors, fabrics, furniture and arts. Her suggested purchases are always geared towards quality and durability. This is important in any project but even more important in a commercial one: It is time and money saving in the long run. The outcome was a beautiful, simple yet classy elegant restaurant. I would highly recommend ML Design for any project , commercial or residential. That is why I am hiring the firm again for my new house.
