About Us
Maria Löw was born in Sweden. She studied textile design at Konstfack, University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm.
Maria Löw is a well-known name in Swedish design. She has been active as a freelance designer and interiordesigner since she graduated in 1988. Her textile designs, for homes as well as public spaces, include printed and woven fabrics, hand-tufted and woven rugs and carpets, printed blinds and wallpaper. Her clients include Ikea of Sweden, Marks Pelle Vävare, Svenskt Tenn, Strömma of Sweden, Borås Wäfveri, Ljungbergs Textile and Almedahls. She has been commissioned by the Swedish Foreign Office, and is represented with unique carpets in the Swedish embassies of Jakarta and Canberra as well as in the EU Headquarters in Brussels.
Löw’s expression spans broadly from organic to more stringent geometric shapes. She moves skilfully between these extremities, using powerful gestures and an exquisite sense of colour. She has repeatedly received the Excellence in Swedish Design Award (Utmärkt Svensk Form) for carpets as well as fabrics. She has also received the Japanese prize, Sakizo - Textile Design Competition 2000.
Löw has many commercially successful products in her portfolio. A example is the printed curtain fabric “Blomstra” (Almedahls, 2000)and Morris (Almedahls, 2014)
Her designs are extremely well received by producers, consumers and critics alike. The leading Swedish design magazine Form writes about “3D Rug,” “Better than Good! … Functionality with an artistic trompe l´oeil effect.” They go further: “A new way of thinking, effective, barrier breaking.”
