We are still in mid-course of getting our final estimates from Deck Builders to replace and upgrade our current elevated house deck. The process has been easy and very comfortable, especially working with Kim. He listened to our vision, offered suggestions in the way of design changes and material options. All the time it was as a consult and not a "sale". So while we have yet to hire Kim and his company we certainly can and do recommend him for any home or commercial decking project.

Kim and his team built a large deck for us a couple years ago. Because all he does is decks I found Kim to be very informed about what materials to use and how to best do things. He had lots of ideas on deck design and both what materials to use as well as what materials NOT to use (which can be even more important). He sources his material from multiple suppliers and has clearly spent time figuring out which one does aluminum posts best and who's got the best price on decking material. While Kim is probably not the cheapest contractor around neither is he the most expensive and I think he delivers value for money. He also understands the local regulatory environment well and can help his customers navigate those issues. When working with Kim it's important to know what you want and to be sure to communicate it to him clearly & consistently. I'd hire Kim again when I have another deck to do.

Kim Katwick knows deck building. He is an expert the experts turn to. Our latest project was put on hold by the city planning and permit department until Kim showed up and explained the new rules to them. Kim is one of the most experienced and enthusiastic deck builders in the industry. His tireless contributions to a variety of magazines, as well as his attendance and/or participation as a course instructor in almost every Deck Expo Show since its inception easily rank him as a Master. He pioneered PVC and Composite board bending in North America and has taught me everything I know about board bending. His advice is invaluable. He has strived to improve the overall caliber of deck building by contractors throughout North America as well as promoting annual deck safety inspections. A person could not expect a better quality deck builder or end result.

I am a professional engineer and have worked with many builders over the years. Kim is well known and respected in the industry. He is very honest. I have worked with Kim for over 20 years.
