After five years I am writing my review. Every year I come up here to my second home and I cant believe how solid my home is. In that time I think we have had to replace a toilet gasket and that is about it. The house is as solid as a rock. It is also about as air tight and efficient as I had eve hoped for. It cost more than I anticpated but it has been well worth it.

Great Lakes Carpentry did a great job building our Timberpeg home. Randy listened to our ideas, wrote down items we discussed, and always followed up. He seemed truly interested in creating the quality home we wanted. Toward the end of the project when we decided to finish the basement, he offered great suggestions for adding a storage area and making the posts appear to be timbers like the rest of the home. GLC's crew worked hard and did excellent work. Deadlines were met and costs as estimated. We would definitely hire them again and recommend GLC to others.

Randy and his crew have done several jobs for us. The last was re-roofing our house. The job required a tearoff due to some leaking and improper original construction. Not only did they do an excellent job, they took photos of the problems. The builder's crew did not put ice & snow sheeting onto the roof before laying shingles. We have also seen a number of Great Lakes Carpentry building projects and have been very impressed both with the quality and the best in current methods of solar and heat loss prevention. Randy keeps up with and designs for the home construction possible.

We Worked with Great Lakes Carpentry Inc. for weatherization work on our existing home and for development of plans for a new home we're planning to build in the not too far future. They did an excellent job of tightening our existing home up and greatly reduced our heating/cooling cost. We were impressed with their dedication to building energy efficient homes. They took time to educate us on building science principles and best practices and showed us how beneficial building to a higher energy efficient design standard would be for us over the long term. what really blew us away was their understanding of building to PHIUS Passive House Standard. Who knew that we could build a house that could be heated with the equivalent of a hair dryer, save us 90% on our heating costs, cut our carbon footprint by 80%, provide excellent indoor-air quality and still be affordable? Our dream/goal is to have Great Lakes Carpentry build us a PHIUS Certified Passive House as soon as we can.

Large or small, the quality and attention to detail is amazing. I've never felt more secure that the best possible decisions would be thoroughly considered, proposed and executed in my projects. Also, I found Randy beyond knowledgeable regarding home efficient technologies and building practices. He offered products and solutions that provided long term benefits I never would've otherwise considered. It was not only the finished product, but also the reassuring and timely process that made working with Great Lakes Carpentry such a great decision.

Great Lakes Carpentry is a top notch professional residential builder. Excellent at communication! Starts and completes projects ON TIME. As a cabinet design specialist, it's detrimental to have accurate floor plans, flat walls and level floors in order to ensure a literal "perfect" fit for cabinetry and countertops. GLC builds that kind of house! I highly recommend them!
