“Between 2012 and 2013 we built a house with a tight landscaping budget. Rachel was involved from the beginning and came up with beautiful, detailed, deer-proof plans for our 3.15 acres, focusing on native plants that don't require watering (once they're established) and coordinating with our builders. She purchased and planted most of the plants (we purchased and planted whatever worked for us, and she made up the difference) and helped coordinate other services for the hardscaping (concrete curbs around two self-contained areas), bark dusting and shrubbery-clearing. She even wrote detailed instructions for the subsequent steps and maintaining the landscaping. She remains interested and helpful and is very responsive to our questions. We consider ourselves very lucky to have her help!”

“I had lived in my house for 14 years when I hired Holly Stickley of The White Pear to design my backyard. I had never worked with a designer before, so I had a lot of questions. Holly answered all of them as she walked me through the process. She and her team worked tirelessly in the demolition and construction phase, removing all the grass and creating beautiful berms and pathways. In addition to utilizing plants and materials that I already had, she introduced me to exciting new plants. The following year, The White Pear transformed my front yard. I love the serene Northwest/Asian atmosphere that The White Pear created!”

“We worked with Landscape East and West on a complete backyard remodel this past year. Our designer was Christin and we are very pleased with the final result. Christin did a great job finding out what our goals for our landscape were and collaboratively designing a covered and open patio area as well as green space. We have yet to see the full effect of the new plantings, but love the plants with winter interest that were suggested. We have also greatly appreciated Christin's responsiveness to questions and finalizing the project and the hard work of the team that did the implementation, who worked late several times to ensure that the project moved along. Thank you!”

“Glenn Nardelli and the whole Pistils Landscape Design + Build crew were excellent. I would highly recommend this company and my wife and I plan to use them again in the future. They did a project for us last spring that included sod demo and re-grading of our yard in preparation for install of large modern raised steel retaining wall planter beds with custom architectural paver concrete steps. This was phase 1 of our two-phase backyard makeover. The design process was a fun collaboration and Glenn met with us on site multiple times to fine-tune the final plans before we broke ground. Glenn is personable, has excellent attention to detail, and really cared that the final project turned out exactly as we envisioned. The project went as planned, both time and budget. The crew was very professional and respectful of our home and neighbors. A year later, we still couldn’t be happier with the outcome. The steel retaining beds have such a clean, precise, modern look, yet the oxidized metal adds a rich, organic textural interest that makes our plants just “pop.” The end product was better than hoped for and we get tons of compliments. We’d like to take credit, but the credit truly goes to Pistils Landscape Design + Build. We look forward to our next project with you.”

“After months of planning we lost our contractor weeks prior to renovating our kitchen and main living space. We had appliances and cabinetry purchased with set delivery dates and were in a panic - walls needed to move and beams needed to go up. Fractal Renovations was recommended as a local company by Houzz. Blake responded to our Houzz inquiry within 1 business day, and was on site reviewing our project within the week. We were impressed at his willingness to the take time to listen to us and comprehend the scope of our project. He was attentive to all our communication both call, text, email throughout our project. Fractal's team of craftsmen were kind and easy to work with. With any old home once you open walls there are hurdles and challenges to work through. We felt that Fractal kept us in the loop, and guided us through our renovation with their expert opinions to help create a complete transformation of our space. Attached are pictures of previous kitchen and completed project. In 14 weeks Fractal completed all demolition, installed a 22 foot beam to span the room (allowing us to remove 3 walls), added a window and exterior door, adjusted/shifted 4 interior door ways, managed all plumbing and electrical, completed all drywall work, painted all interior walls, placed new baseboard throughout the house, and received and assisted with install of appliances. We highly recommend working with Blake and his team.”

“We (a team from our Board) hired Mr. Abbate and team to help us design a new Master Plan for our 90 year old, 55 acre, christian group camp in the mountains of Southern California. He and his team did a fabulous job. The end product was completed on time and on budget, and it met all of our very challenges set of demands. His team created a beautiful design that we are very proud of. Mike's work started with a very detailed process of understanding every inch of our facility and our uses and dreams for it. He helped us imagine how camp user needs might change over the years and how we could create a Master Plan that was better able to adapt. Because he has been a part of so many types of projects he had experiences that helped us to think, early in the design process, about potential challenges, that could have cost us dearly later in the project. I think one of Mike's greatest assets is his ability/passion to "hear" what his clients want and to turn those desires into a project that works well and looks great. We were thrilled that Mike's varied life, development and design experiences helped us improve our ideas vastly. You can imagine, that when a team is working on a project that they care about deeply, disagreements can arise. Mike's people skills often helped our team come to agreement when we might not have found our way. (We are all still very good friends thanks, in part, to Mike's wisdom during our project.) Mike always kept his commitments and was often gracious with us when we were having trouble keeping ours. Abbate Design did world class work for us and helped us ensure that what we built was going to be sustainable and healthy for our camp and our neighbors for a long time. We invested a lot in this project and I can't imagine partnering with anyone we could have trusted our mission to more Mike and his team. “We loved working with Mike! He is easy going, professional, and, above all, talented. We live in a community where homes have minimal outdoor space, but wanted the little bit of outdoor space we have to feel lush and welcoming. You might think that designing for a small yard would be easy, but the truth is that it is significantly more challenging. We spoke with Mike about the type and style of plants that we wanted and he was very skillfully able to come up with a landscape design, including hardscape, that exceeded our expectations. Mike was very hands on during the implementation stage to ensure that the final landscape was consistent with plans, and even made a few minor tweaks as necessary. Now we get compliments on our yard from neighbors (and strangers!) and we feel like we have retreated to our own private oasis at night enjoying wine on the patio. We could not be happier!
