“Andrew Schilling of SALT Architecture is to me the nearly perfect architect. I have worked with and hired many architects on various projects over the years and they usually seem to be either creative or technical...Andrew is both (and more). When I was interviewing architects in the Portland area to build my house he stood out from the crowd with his excellent communication skills, technical ability, deep knowledge, experience, and ability to capture our dreams and represent them in drawings. “Ely was excellent in eveything he does. He is very prompt and we loved working with him every step of the way. He came up with a great studio design for our 2nd location. He quickly drafted three different proposal after taking detailed measurements of the place. All designs were amazing. Once we finalize on the deisgn, he quickly put our permit application in with City of Portland for approval. The process was very efficient. He handled all steps of the process very professionally. We highly recommend working with him.”

“Departure came out to our property after the 2013 Build-It-Green tour and talked to us about potential of building an ADU. A year later, we decided to move forward with building an ADU and again, contacted Dan Lajoie. He came out to our property with the notes and ideas discussed the previous year and was willing to spend a long time discussing our hopes for our ADU. He was able to take our ideas and create a beautiful space that works perfectly for us and our property. Throughout the beginning of the process Dan was available to answer our questions, he spent time sharing pictures and showing us ideas as well as meeting with us regularly to look at his progress. He always took our perspective into account and reworked some of the drafts to ensure we were getting what we wanted; but he also had fantastic ideas that we had not thought of and did a great job inserting his personal character into the project. Overall, we have been really impressed with Dan's patience and his ability to turn a small space into something so functional and beautiful.”

The combination of artistry, creativity, flexibility, practicality, and attention to detail they bring to their work is really impressive, and has resulted in a design much better than we envisioned. It's particularly impressive when the complicated site and extreme environment of our oceanfront setting are taken into account. We're very happy with the project and feel fortunate to have found this great group of people to work with! Follow-on now that the project is finished: Our home turned out beautifully. Marty is as eager to work on the removal of a kitchen wall as he is a full two room addition.
